HARGEISA (SomalilandPress)—Somaliland’s speaker Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Airo) reaffirmed that Somaliland’s sovereignty is non-negotiable while speaking to the VOA’s Somali service yesterday. Mr. Abdullahi made clear Somaliland’s stance on sovereignty as he spoke with the local press on his way back from Djibouti where he was leading a delegation from Somaliland taking part in celebrations to mark the 34th anniverasy of Djibouti’s independence anniversary from France.

Speaker Abdillahi was responding to a statement made by Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in which he said southern Somalia was ready to apologise for the atrocities that were committed against the people of Somaliland by the previous Siad Barre government. Speaker Abdullahi is the second Somaliland government official that has thus far responded to President Sheikh Sharif by saying to him thanks but no thanks, making clear that Somaliland will stay sovereign from the rest of Somalia.
The Somaliland President has yet to formally respond to President Sheikh Sharif’s statement concerning the apology concerning the atrocities committed throughout the 1980’s.

SO A DHULBAHNTE I WOULD ENCOURAGE THE SOMALILAND GOVERNMENT TO MAKE SURE ALL TRIBES ARE HAPPY AND NOT JUST ONE TRIBE. MOST OF OUR REGION DIDNT EVEN TAKE PART OF THE REFRENDUM

Speak only for your Dhulbhante sub-clan brother and not ALL Dhulbhante. Their are no wars going on in Sanaag, and Sool has become nice now. The only trouble makers still running around are Rar Buhoodle and they are currently in dialogue with the Somaliland government. Finally, the SSC has agreed to a long-term peace with Somaliland government and the government has promised to ensure Dhulbhante areas will be given a fair share of power and development. WIN-WIN for the peace lovers and a bitter day for the ANTI-ISAAQ warmongers.

      Asalam
Though I agree with you, I wonder if Somaliland cares enough to help mend relationships with the rest of Somalia?
Somaliland is "peaceful" now by the Grace of Allah, I think we need to have an attitude that says we "CARE" about Somali and will help our Muslim brothers through these trying times.
      Salam

      • I Jama says:

Somalilanders have time and time expressed their CARE towards what is happening in Somalia. They and I have asked for the trouble makers to stop making things worse by attacking us. As this will only further agitate the already taut situation by inflaming negative feelings and creating future hatred. So I think you should be aiming this to those who are paid to cause hardship to the Somalilanders by claiming to speak for Somalia???

Come on board if you are not there yet. Somaliland is here to stay and will protect its territory with force if necessary, so do not waste your time and effort. Go back to what.? I don't even know what why he has to confirm somaliland's stance.
The reality speaks for itself: God bless, Somaliland is a functioning democratic state with institutions.
Local councils, Parliment, courts, House of elders, Universities, diplomatic relations with the interantional community. Everybody in the world knows we have been a state for the past 21 years.

Who do we go back to criminal mafias in destroyed Mogudishu and the dugsi educated crook.
There is nothing they can do to Somaliland. These people do not even have mercy for their own people in Southern Somalia. Their so called leaders are picked by Egypt (Abdi qassim), Ethiopia (Sherif Aden) and the west (dugsi educated so called president).

Our leaders, intellectuals, and elders care about their people and that is why Somaliland is where it is today.
We have not been expecting the world to solve our problems, but we have solved it our own.

At least and finally, he the first head of the Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government who confirms the autrocity against Somalilanders. It was always denial, denial and denial from government and the people alike. It was a long time coming, but as all other above said, it is too little too late. And yes, of course, the sovereignty of Somaliland is not negotiable. The only thing we Somalilanders want from Somali South is their blessings, cooperation, peace, and good neighbours anything other than that is impossible.

there is only one important point in sharif's speech He bravely and loudly stated the genocide or all atrocities somalilanders experienced during the 31 years of union with south Somalia

  13. Abdi says:

Fact #1: SNM single handedly fought for Somaliland and for the freedom the people of Somaliland enjoy today
#2: It protected the rights of minorities throughout Somaliland and ensured smooth transition of power
from the freedom fighters to civilian government through transitional president C/raxmaan Tuur
#3: Then gauranteed no reprisals take place against those who supported and had hand in
atrocities committed in Somaliland against the people of Somaliland
#4: It gave tromendous support to the choices and will of the Somaliland people who chose to regain
    their independence

Now Somaliland has an elected, competent civilian government with strong mandate from their people —East-West and North to South that is committed to peace, democracy, rule of law and strong neighborly relations and supported by all its people.

There are those who can get over their guilt in destroying Somaliland and its people under the hands of Siad Barre so what they do to make themselves feel better is to manufacture or create propaganda and propagate baseless lies, starting with only Isaq support Somaliland's stance. To those I just say to them watch how all Somaliland people from corner to corner celebrate the two independence dates May 18 (the date Siad Barre was ousted and June 26 the 51 yrs since British has left.

The majority of people in Somaliland's Eastern provinces support their brothers in the rest of Somaliland. I am confident that the remaining pockets of Sool and Sanaag will do the sensible thing and part-take in what is a rare jewel in all Africa. I urge them to instead use the funds sent by the few senseless diaspora to to support development in Education, Commerce and Peace. I am confident that development will followed when peace holds and developmental workers feel safe to build and strengthen what has already been built.

People can dissagree on many issues without flaunting and touting guns and threatening war….where is the sense in that…..They never claim that Somaliland is oppressing certain people in one region, with holding development or any other gigantic reason to undermind our people enjoy. If you take arms to force the union of Somaliland with Somalia (which by the way peacefully made that choice on their own 51 yrs ogo) in quest for Greater Somali Republic, are u willing to 'Destroy Djibouti, OOGO & Haud in Ethiopia or the NFD in Kenya….is that your solution….nOTHING BUT WAR…..WAR AND WAR….I thing you better revise your strategies and come up with some thing better and solve the problems Somalia faces before you creat others you can't win

     Reply
  15. Abdi says:

Sometimes cooperations is better than war…just take for example the plight and struggle of the Palastinian brothers lasting for the 61 years….where they had suffered un imagineable atrocities under the Israelis nothing short of a modern concentration camps in West bank an Gaza which is further complicated by incompetent action of those surrounding arab countries who can't even solve their own problems. If it hadn't worked in 61 years, has it not dawn in them to alter strategy and improve the condition of their brothers in Palistine in some other ways….Ooooh No I just realize they don't even like freedom for their own people so why would they want it for their Palistinian brothers?

You have already robbed Somalis of their dream and aspirations in so many ways
    1) By not doing right by those who joined you in good faith without condition (Somaliland) in more ways than
    one such as
    a) Refusing to share political power sharing equitably
    b) Ensuring equity in economic opportunities and resource sharing
    c) Committing un imaginable atrocities to suppress its civilian populations
    d) Promoting tribalism and hatred and creating animosity among peace loving clans that coexisted for
millennias ( which by the way manifests it self in may ways including being oppositions to every thing
    Somaliland achieves or stands for)
    2) Ensuring through an ill adviced and thought off policies that Greater Somalia is lost forever
    – don't forget so called Ogadania was succeeded to Ethiopia no other than Siad Barre himself for a
condition to oust SNM from Ethiopia and end its support for it in a secret deal
    3) Creating and sewing the condition which gaurantees that Somalia today is myard in endless conflict
    throught teaching conflict and corruption
    4) As consequence Piracy is rampent, civil was is endless, not to mentions Alshebabe all of which seek
    refuge in Somalia

Did you ever asked yourselves why every Somali want to be a leader in Somalia….because they are pre-programed to think of political power as an opportunity to ensure personal wealth and status and means to suppress the marginalized groups. It is a continuation of Siad's teachings and doings my friends. Somali's were respected all over the world before…today they are pirates, refugees (to be mistreated in Kenya systematically by a corrupt authority and police who, robe and raped women and children….Aids and every disease is rampant because the delibrate in human condition these people find in themselve. before the 90's Aids was unheard of in the Somali Republic.

Use your brain poeple….that is why God has given it to us

This has been the legacy of Siad Barre and his cronies

FACT#1 As most Isaaqs SNM supporters would wish, The Dhulbahante and Warsangali clans are NOT and will NEVER be a minority on SOMALI soil. If you didn’t know that already, just google it!!

FACT#2 These two tribes were NOT part of the formation of SNM which we’ll know was a tribalist, hateful and anti Daarood terrorist militia, therefore they are NOT part of this ONE TRIBE admin that calls itself Somaliland!!

FACT#3 The so called democratic political parties, UDUB, UCID and Kulmiye are nothing but ONE TRIBE clubs that you can check it for yourself and see who runs them.

FACT#4 Even if the Isaaq’s try to go on with their succesion dream. Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and half of Togdheer will never be part of it, since these territories belong to unionist clans that oppose the so called SNM led SL.
