Mr. President, on behalf of the people of Somaliland, I congratulate you and our brotherly people of Djibouti for the peaceful election that brought you once again to rule your country.
It’s about time you to change your course and how you deal with your neighboring country Somaliland and start recognizing my country. The people of Somaliland have done a lot since 1956 when the wind of change and want of Independence start blowing in the Horn of Africa. Our people [specially those far sighted politicians and elderly] have shared your then politicians in their guest and later advised President Hassan Gulaid Abtidon to abandon to unite with the two Somali entities that have joined together, to create Somali Republic at the time and notion of [Somaliweyn] and go alone to form a country that has nothing to do with greater Somalia. This piece of advice has saved State of Djibouti from the quagmire we Somaliland have experience before we re-claim our Statehood. Your Uncle has answered that advice. That is why Djibouti and its people are well off today. The people of Somaliland have supported your people, and it’s about time that you pay back of what we did for your country and change what you have been doing for the last 20 years.
Our two peoples are inseparable and share a common destination and good from the first day we came to existence, and part of Somaliland is resided by your own people and that will not be changed, but needs to be strengthened and supported. Just look back to those days of your campaign and the rest is known to you without me saying what our people have done for you.
The former President of Djibouti HE Hassan Gulaid Abtidoon, use to visit places where our Diasporas in Arabian Peninsula live, to ask financial support, and they have done what they could, without any reservations to support him in his fight for Djibouti to become independent. Our people told Djiboutian – Do not joint Somali Republic, when Siyaad Barre and his cronies where saying and singing “DJIBOUTA’I KA SOO HOYO HORARKIYO WARAABAHA” and we said loudly don’t do it. History should not be forgotten and the strings attached between our nations should not be loosened further. Damage is done knowingly or unknowingly, since our people re-claimed their right of Statehood, but CAANO DAATAY BADHKOOD LA QABAY. It’s you who can repair that damage now, while using the God given ability of differentiating what is right and what is wrong, and it should not be delayed further.
Time is rib for you and you have the best occasion to declare what people of Somaliland will always remember you. The day, 18th May, 2011 is at the door-steps and it is a chance that you should not miss, if at all you care of the solid common benefits that our people share and continue to share. I believe the support and honestly undertaking of our people in Somaliland and in Djibouti is still fresh to all minds, specially yourself and the people of Djibouti. Don’t miss this change Mr. President and act without hesitation. Say the magic word and you will not regret it. It’s you “and only you” who will bear the fruits of this action and our people will not forget that.
Your have spent precious time and effort to help TFG, but there is nothing that you can do anymore, because they do not want to help themselves. It’s time that you change the course and see the reality on the ground, that you have been ignoring for a very long time. GEEDKA CIISE AYAANNU NIMI MAANTA, ANNAGOO DOONAYNA SHARAFTA AANNU LEENAHAY INAAD GARATID.
You can also break the stalemate that exist at the AU Headquarters, while using the uniqueness of Somaliland case which has nothing to do with Pandora box that they continue to obstruct the rightful case of Somaliland, which does not have any conflict with the AU Charter while no valid reason was there from 1991.
Sincerely,
Omer Hussein Dualeh,

If SL gets recognition Djoubit port will close down and Berbera port will take all its trade. Simple. That's the reason Geele has worked tirelessly to prevent SL getting recognition. Without its port Djibouti is nothing. It has no natural resources and a population the size of an English town.
No matter how much I love Somaliland (I'm originally from there) but I believe in the unity of Somalia. I just fail to understand this secessionist tendencies of Slanders. The South has failed completely, SL with its democratic system and solid institutions should have taken the lead and save the whole of Somalia from this madness. The capital should be relocated to Hargeisa if necessary until Muqdisho is pacified and rebuilt. Instead of taking their responsibilities to save the nation, SLanders preferred to secede. Its sad…
But how is such an idea, don't you think you should consider "leading" the whole of Somalia towards a democratic, federal and stable nation that reclaims its historic role in our region rather than small independent but weak republics?
Anyway, I don't think our country should recognize SL as an independent nation. I think Djibouti's interest lies with a strong, stable and united Somalia, and that is what we should defend.
If are so happy for our "brothers" in south, why don't form a union with them then .. yeah, lets us switch places, and make jibouti the new capital of somalia, and ina Gelle can be the president! hows that sounds to ya?
Saaxib do not take your views about Isaaq people frm this webiste. These people represent a fanatical Miniroty. North Somalis isnt separating from South any soon. Im Isaaq also and like you i believe in Unity of Somalis. These people are only hardcore qabilist. So dont take it seriously.
Cheers
Dear Ahmed. You have the right of your opinion, but it seems you are missing something. There is no Somalia will be strong, and they will be fighting another 20 years, because of many reasons that you may not be familiar. Since when you have been Djibouti citizen?
The reason I ask you that question is half of Djiboutian are from Somaliland, but there are some who always have a different agenda other than that of common interest to all Somalilanders. The brotherly relations of Djiboutian and Somalilanders will be better of, if your President accepts the reality and accepts Somaliland rightful statehood.
Again, my origins are irrelevant, my loyalty and patriotism is to Djibouti only, at the end of the day most Djiboutians are originally from somewhere else…
The support of Somalia (SL was part of it then, credit goes to u equally) during our struggle for independence and nationhood is a price we can never fully repay. And today recognizing SL and de facto contributing to the dismantlement of the country would be a failure of our moral responsibilities towards Somalia.
But then I fully respect your choice of separation but I don't want my country to be the first to recognize SL, if the International Community does, then fine we should follow. But we can't take the blame for starting the recognition process and thus putting an official end to united Somalia.
Otherwise, SL is my second home, my family has a summer residence there…We're the same people at the end of the day.
I am a Somali lander. I don't agree with what the writer of this above letter mentioned about the political choice of Djibouti not to join the Somali Republic. Also I don't believe that Somali land shares common interests with Djibouti. Truly speaking, Djibouti is ruled by Issas who hate the people of Somaliland. Though Issas live in the coastal areas of Somaliland and have grazing borders with some of Somaliland tribes, they don't sympathize with our cause. They are culturally unique and understanding them is very hard when it comes to things that concern Somaliland. After they gained their independence from France, the first thing they did was to antagonize Somaliland. This police of theirs has not changed since that time.
I AM djiboutian and replying to mr khalid who talking abt the issas , we didi all the best for somalias bc they are our brother before other and see how y talk abt them y dont shame y are not a man , issas is the best to understand the others y know how many somalian is live in djibouti same of djiboutian has nationality did we find this abt somalia they will never give y nationality except those who born and abt somaliland y are the one who like to be separed from the others cusse y divided somalia in two so you should think before comment dear ok
Ahmed, please tell Ina Geele to join Somalia. I can see your opinion because I know who you are. If you care of what use to be Somali Republic, please join them and call the rest of Somali speaking people to join you. You will died while hating Somaliland.
y are a country and we are another so joint is not available or acceptable ok dear
Regardless of the political choices of the Govts in Djibouti Somaliland was and still is the beacon wisdom attain leadership for all the 5 Star Somalis in the HOA. That's a fact in historical terms. Today
as things stand in SL which's is in essence in strong position thanks to the good governance of
the Kulmiye Party in power SL is not in a weak position as such: If all wishes were horses beggars
would ride!. Which means that SL is now not such begging position but rather in the forefront and fully ready to be inaugurated to become a free member of the UN World body. Ka naxaw oggow wa godob kugu maqan.
Cheers.
