I would like to say few words about the article below written by Qarannews.

A patriotic journalist is the one who protects his nation and those our people have elected, while writing the truth of the day-to-day events in the country to show and disclose anything that may hinder our endeavor to fully fledged Statehood. I see Qarannews a website that digs the dirt and witch hunt. My fellow citizen, please just sit back for while and evaluate what this website writes everyday since this government came to power. I would you to digest and see in depth of the unstoppable vendetta this website continue doing since.

What is wrong with the person who runs this website? Why we do see an article against Dr.Mohamed Abdillahi Omar everyday? What exactly the Minister did to the guy who edits Qarannews? Was there a conflict between them before the Minister got this job in Somaliland? Why personal attack without reservation?

I and others in Somaliland diaspora would like some answer to above questions. The gentleman who runs this website was accused of breaking into Minister’s personal email and published he some got away until now, but still continuing publishing personal emails of the later, without even feeling shame. Who supports this website and protects from the law of the UK and beyond?

I believe the trend of such unlawful continuation of harassing the minister has to stop somewhere, and soon, otherwise there might be a serious consequence if not checked out.

What this website is doing is against our culture and against the law of the modern world. It’s about time that the foreign ministry engages politically to the country this guy live, because what he is doing is beyond comprehension and international law.

Lastly, if we go back to the culture of Somaliland clans, there is window of his own tribe to come forward to tell this guy, what he is doing is more than investigative journalism and its norms. The reason I said this is that, there could be a unilateral action from someone who felt this is too much an needs to be stopped, and that could create unforeseen and unfortunate clash between two people.

I would like my fellow citizens to understand that I do not support the foreign minister because he is from my clan, but consider of patriotism that encouraged me to write this peace.

Finally, I do not have anything against our former ministers shown below, and I know each and everyone of them has contributed to our cause during their term in office, but Dr.Mohamed has succeeded to reach out international community further. He steadfastness is what we need know, and I am sure we will not regret. Hence, we need to give a spare to breath until such time, he concurs or fails and change will definitely come through, if we have someone who is more pragmatic and better.

I SAID WHAT I SAID OUT OF PATRIOTISM AND NOTHING ELSE.

Sincerely,
O. H. Dualeh

    Mr. Dualeh,
I see no reason of scorning Qaran news for digging our the dirty some of our ministries are bathing in. Unlike you Mr. Dualeh, I honor them for doing so to keep check on these rascals. An investigative journalism lets the people know of who is doing what and to unearth the hail-fellows among us to our enemy is the right thing we need at this junction. I say Bravo To Qaran and others who do just what we need to safeguard our independence and integrity

      Sir,
I do not think Qaran news is doing an investigative journalism, Instead, it's trying to undermine Somaliland cause.
What this website forget is to differentiate between a nation called Somaliland and the people who is currently running the affair of the Country. Their attack is against the nation because the people whom they are attacking in their editorial website everyday were elected to the office by majority of Somaliland people and therefore, if they believe in Somaliland sovereignty, then they have to respect the wishes of its people.

Qarannews is always committed to publishing in their news media bad articles against certain
Govt. officials…personal attacks. Mainly the attacks are thwarted on behalf of the President Silaanyo
and his clan public/private high profile leadership dignitaries. Nowadays the Foreign Minister DR. Omar too is also included. Qarannews is cowardly racist to a certain tribes and their compatriots like DR. Omar. Why is that is ethically unjournalistic and only becomes criminal in nature. The Ministry of Information
and the Govt. must be able to work together to investigate these problems of Qarannews and apply the
appropriate solutions to safeguard the stability and the Independence integrity of the Country.
I think MR. Dualeh has a point and is positive in his op-ed.
    Cheers.

I have supported some of the articles from Qarannews, but having seen further no-news and personal attacks I dug little deep into the issue and found that like many other Somali websites (90% of them) this newspaper is by a uneducated "Fadhu ku dirir" jobless "chewing machine" that gets the effort to write at their Qat sessions.

Most of the people who host website are not journalist nor do they have any journalism background. And they don't understand their rights and obligations and just because they live abroad they think that they are untouchable. That is why they unleash their personal attacks on government official. True journalist would understand where to draw the line and he/she would dare to cross it because they will be sued.

What they Somaliland should do is to go after them when they cross the line even if they live in another country and put them in their place on a heavy fine. How? They could appoint somebody who lives in the same country on their half to take them to court. That will teach them how to behave.

I think Qarannews is keeping our government accountable. If you read the articles objectively, you will come the conclusion that Dr. Omar has put Somaliland's cause in jeopardy. Isn't anyone bothered that he lied to the Somaliland parliament, and has had contact with tfg which vehemently opposes Somaliland existence. I think a sign of good journalism is exposing everything to the light of day, warts and all. That is what democracy is all about.

  8. Abdi says:

Saleebaan Xaaji, Wrong, engaging the TFG in private might be what is needed, We ignored Somalia since Egal and we have been begging the International community for over 20 yrs and no results, maybe Dr Adilahi Omar's approach is the right policy for the right moment and Qarannews exposing that is not in the interest of somaliland, Jornalism or no Jornalism. You will thank our FM later when his approach bears fruit.

     Reply
    • Saleebaan Xaaji says:

Abdi, you are so wrong, it is not even funny. We have a freely elected, democratic government, who or what is the tfg? Negotiate with an entity that is not representative, that is not freely elected, that is not even in control of its own domain. The Somalland's FM efforts are wrong and dangerous. Illicit and illegal contacts with anyone never leads anywhere. Somaliland sent donation to our somali brothers and sisters suffering from drought in Somalia, what did we get in return from your precious tfg? Somaliland should never give legitmacy to an entity like the tfg. Let Somalia have a free and democratically elected, then we will take, but not before, and If you don't understand this, then you are not very astute in terms of politics and national security

I am against Qarannews hacking personal emails and publishing the contents on their website. At the same time, I find this article to be inciting violence against Qarannews editor, which is unacceptable too. Mr. Dualeh, you could simply tell us why it is wrong to email-hack, without resorting to the bad things that could happen to this editor. Since when an international culture was established?

Well Mr. Dualeh, I do no agree with you or Qarannews and I think you are the two faces of the same coin. I think Qaranews must take legal action against you.

For what Mr. Abdillahi has done is also unacceptable. He is unprofessional, immature and a victim of his actions. I think he should resign effective from this hour. In my opinion, he damaged badly the reputation of our country, the office of the Somaliland ministry and the Silaanyo administration.

Qarannews, there is a better way of becoming a oppesition journalist other than resorting to clan hatred and email hacking.
Two wrongs do not make right!

I am fair and it is unfair for you to characterize me as unfair. I think I know where you coming from, you must be the kind of people , who think they have monopoly on righteousness. I am not going to argue with you, because I see not point in doing so. Please do not tell me that Dr. Abdillahi is an angel, he couldn't even change his email even though he knew that it was hacked and he even lied to the junior clerk in the UK embassy to Ethiopia.

My goodness, Somaliland foreign ministry has fallen this low.

Okay then suit yourself buddy. We don't see things on the same page. I didn't say DR. Omar is an
Angel. All am trying to express is that by the general standards of the Govt. of Somaliland in power,
DR. Omar is perceived as being honest and hardworking and whatever he's doing tend to express
positive steps intended to benefit the Somaliland stance which sadly since 1993 was stuck up
to move forward to gain Recognition. Dr. Omar has the support of many Somalilanders who are
following his good performance in the Country's diplomatic levels.
          Cheers.

This precisely what I was talking about earlier, guys you don't get away with things like these. Please stop giving people addresses and throwing mafia-threats left and right. It is obvious that you can not defeat an argument with counter argument and then resort to threats. It is known to two year-old child that the performance of Dr. Abdillahi as foreign minister is ZERO. He exposed himself by managing this illegal hacking business in a very bad way. How can we trust such a person with Somaliland foreign ministry with such a naive person, who couldn't deal with a hacked email successfully. You guys are just repeating his stupidity by publishing the Qarannews editors address. I repeat the email hacking was wrong and illegal, but the whole thing could have been dealt in a better way, that is Dr. Abdillahi had the intelligent stature of the position he is holding.

Qarannews and Somaliland.org exchanged places, so what is the fuss all about? Now it is Somaliland.org's turn to realize what they were doing to the country during Rayale's term. Both are tabloid news devoid of any substance or journalism. Yellow journalism is just that, no matter what side is taken.

  18. Omer says:

I was a regular contributor to Somalilandpress during Riyaale administration, but did not heck emails. But I agree Somaliland.org is Kulmiye and Qarannews is pro-UDUB. That is why I do not read both websites to get unbiased information, because the both lack credibility.

     Reply
  19. Somalilander says:

Riyaale administration was proved to have wasted Somaliland peoples time and resources and Somaliland.org echoed what Somaliland people felt. However, Qarannews has used dubious and illegal methods to attach President Silanyo government when he seems to have managed to do a lot more in such as short time compared to the wasted 9/10 yrs previous government held office.

So the proof is in the pudding and I don't think Qaran news tell the Somaliland people anything to give them credit for but rather they show themselves as useless as the last adminstrationd.

1993-2002?. What was Somaliland like when Rayaale took over?. Be rationale in your judgement.
