Somaliland security is in jeopardy. The government must not let the Ethiopian refugees loitering in Hargeisa streets begging. Also illegal immigrant workers must be aprehended and sent back to Ethiopia. Is a Somaliland a banana state? o it has laws and that must apply to any foreignors who come to the country. The danger is the younger Ethiopians refugees speaks somali with the same accent like Somalilanders. When they reach adult age they will fight for their rights, and at a later time we will have problems like what happened in Sri lanka. The Somaliland Government must ask the UNHCR to account for the numbers of refugees from Somalia and Ethiopi. Security is at risk in Somaliland if people cross our borders and travel freely. All Ethiopian refugees must be repatriated back to their country. They must not work in Somaliland
I disagree with the Vice Minister. If we do not check the current immigrants to Somaliland, especially those coming from Ethiopia of which 99% of them are unskilled, Somaliland will not benefit of them. Worse than that is their offsprings who born in our towns will make a good number of the population and if we do not create a system to check, this will change the demographic and those who born here will be eligible to be a citizens of this country and no one will differentiate between us and them.
We don't mind to have certain entrepreneurial skills to settle, but we should always be careful, and create a viable system to deal with this unstoppable exedus to our home. I know most of our jobless people are snobishly avoid to take the job these people are doing in Somaliland, but that does not mean us to let everyone to come and create unnessary havoc in our backyard. We see Hargeisa population has grown beyond our capacity of the services that our government has provide.
In the absence of a comprehensive immigration laws the security of Somaliland is in real pretty bad shape and scary with all the disorderly confusions this problem contains and/or embodies. Let's all hope to
see the Govt. UNHCR and other UNDP agencies will be able to find comprehensive solutions permanently
laying solid foundations of appreciable good policy matters.
Cheers.
Commemoration for International Migration Day was Concluded in Somaliland, seems a great progress to me but we have to find a way to find jobs for our millions and millions of high schools and universities graduates who loafing around the streets and looting the citizens accordingly.
