The Somaliland National Electoral commission is gearing up for the upcoming 2012 local government elections this according to th Electoral Commission spokesperson Mr. Mohamed Ahmed hirsi (geelle) speaking at a press conference revealed that the commission is close to finishing the electoral preparations for the upcoming local government election.
Mr. Mohamed said the Electoral commission has met with the nine political organizations that are expected to take part in upcoming elections and we have agreed on a comprehensive and inclusive approach in working toward the next round of elections as mandated by the country’s Constitution and that members of the commission will be traveling to Nairobi to meet international donors in an effort to solicit funding for the electoral process, however the National Electoral Commission is under-funded.
The 6 Political Organizations who qualified (WADANI, DALSAN, RAYS, UMMADDA, NASIYE and HAQSOOR will now compete with the current three national parties of UCID, UDUB and KULMIY to contest for upcoming local council elections which are expected to be held soon. ensure the sustainability, integrity and inclusiveness of future polls.
The NEC also highlighted the positive impression that Somaliland’s last presidential election had on the international community and how it made Somaliland a model for the rest of Africa.
Even though, Somaliland is multi-party system country with viable democratic institutions, the government of Somaliland however is not recognized international, despite a growing Western desire to establish formal ties.

Its time for world community to open up their closed mind and recognize that Somaliland democracy and its believe in self-determination is an reversible and as such should be recognized as an independent country.
NEC has been working hard to fulfill their duties and obligations….And for that they deserve a praise. Well done!
I hate to be pessimistic but I could not help myself getting a little bit upset as I was reading the above short article, first of all the NEC is under funded, this is very laughable, it's my first time I heard the NEC doesn't have sufficient funds to carry on it's obligations. How come the financial shortfall of this agency has never been addressed before? and why all of a sudden it becomes a big deal now? my first concern is, we've taken a leap frog without prior preparations for announcing the local elections in the first place..
My other concern is that what necessitated to have so many parties in which we know only 3 /9 will be contesting for the next presidential elections?
In the hindsight, we should of have announced 3 additional parties, one from Central regions and 2 from Western & Eastern regions respectively to reduce costs.
Consequently, we set ourselves up to conduct locals elections from corner to corner, then in 2-3 years we'll be having another presidential elections. Well, if we keep doing these sort of things, they will eventually drain us slowly by spending unnecessary tasks on unsubstantiated effort and money, considering our limited today's economy. It bothers me a lot, that's all
Somaliland's precious presidential elections are some of the highlights in Africa because we had to show the world our true colors and prove ourselves through democratic elections in order to be recognized internationally. Since, we passed all major tests in flying colors, we shouldn't be having these locals elections all at once.

I think the NEC are fully well conversant and will be well prepared/equiped in any upcoming
elections. This NEC have been around significantly and should be able to meet the tasks
ahead of them. We shouldn't forget they are the best NEC team the Country has experienced thus far!,
Surely, they must be bracing to steal yet other rounds of decorated successes like the Presidential
elections..
Cheers
Folks,
My comments have to be severely scrutinized due to a comment I made yesterday about A. H. Ali Ahmed Perhaps he's the founder of this website. What happened to the freedom of speech.
I guess I should quit posting any further comments on Somalilandpress website and go back to have you say on BBC.
I'll also criticize Somalilandpress and it's mediocre website.

Omer Hussein Dualeh,
It's under this article below..
"SONSAF urges the government to widen consultations on Somaliland’s engagement with Somalia"
I called him a typical Washinton, DC lobbyist..That's it..

These sham elections will take place in Waqooyi Galbeed and Togdheer and few other villages where the family lives. Remember people a clan confederation cannot ever be a nation.
