Throwing your hat in the ring and having your say in a sharp and a civilized way is one thing, going clannish and labeling false accusations on our government and private Somaliland citizens is another thing. It is acceptable to fairly and constructively criticize our democratically elected government and also our businesses, but going clannish, rabble-rousing and instigating tribal hatred that can potentially lead to violence is not acceptable to the majority of Somalilanders. We want this clan based worthless way of life to come to an end. We can not afford to waste our more than two decade-old hard-earned illustrious and amalgamated achievements.
Today we have a problem in Berbera, in the coming future we can potentially have comparable problems in Burao, Hargeisa , Borama, Las Anod or any other places in our much-loved country. Pursuant to the superfluous Berbera problems, what do you think will come about, if a huge reserve of oil is discovered in a small village somewhere in Somaliland and speculative claims/allegations similar to those of Berbera community are raised? Will that not chase away badly needed budding investments for our country? Let us end this clannish goaded obstructionism of badly needed investment in Somaliland, if not; we will remain underdeveloped forever and will be cursed by our future generations.
Boasting and hiding behind clan names will not build us a hospital, will not feed a hungry child and will not hollow out a borehole well for our animals, but exploiting our natural resources will help us achieve flourishing socioeconomic well-being. The natural resources in Somaliland are collectively owned by all Somaliland citizens and our government has announced publicly that Somaliland is open for both local and international investments. I hope we will all abide by this announcement and welcome all those who want to invest in our country. I think investment in both human and natural resources will show the way to prosperity. for that reason, we must not put tribal bride and cheap personal interests before our national goals.
Following selfish personal and clannish routes will only discourage prospective capital and investment for our country. Not only that, but these could turn out to be a possibly disastrous and unintentional recipe for anarchy similar to that of our neighboring country – Somalia.
We must not underestimate the enormous and important challenges ahead. Let us all think “big” and not waste our time on Dahabshiil’s unconstructed cement factory. We must use our valuable time and concentrate on cultivating good ideas, learn to support one another in a communal approach and move ahead. Our poverty and war-ravaged vulnerable communities must not be allowed to be opportunistically used by greedy and clan motivated individuals.
I fully agree with those who raised the environmental questions. It is the responsibility of our government to protect our environment and if our government goes astray on environment or any other important issue, we must then resolve those problems collectively through our legislative bodies and independent legal system. The environmental problems are complex national and global issues. To tackle this all important issues, we must but our resources together and come up with innovative smart ideas without hindering the development of our communities. Definitely, a runagate individuals’ usage of mass broadcast media to instigate clannish wars and cyber hooliganism without vision are the wrong ways to go.

Yusuf, well said.
Some of you have lost all bearing on what we represent? Berbera people just want transperancy and financial as well as inclusion. Why do we want a private business like Dahabshiil to do what our government was elected to do? More importantly Why not all all business in Somaliland to form an Indpendent body which answers to the public? The reason is clear Dahabshiil is being used to by pass our Somaliland constitutionn. It represents all Somalis as per their core business base thus they can feel they can negotiate with the TFG whilst the main Somaliland business cannot. They are being supported to be politically bias. Whilst other Somaliland good business are isolated. WHY? Also berbera is a strategically important in terms of the hightest revenue for Somaliland. Thus they hold favor and allegiance by all Somalilanders. They are also the lest developed compared to other cities in Somaliland which makes me even more sypathetic to them over any private company that represtensts core business for all Somlis not just Somalilanders. Right?
My brother you are missing the point. Berbera has achieve more under this adminstration than any other locality because of its startegic location as revenue generating city and for that it has undergone developmental progress unseen anywhere else in the country. But coming up with excuses to derail important developmental projects that can benefit the whole nation by demanding the government to maintain ownership when it doesn't have the financial capacity is outright wrong. Enlighten us what laws are actually broken or by-passed based on the facts on the ground without resorting to heresay and suspicion and I would be the first to support you in peaceful protest that will demand whatever justice that is demanded.
lets not hide behind false and useless associations to make some none sense demands please brother lets move forward and hide our shame that this has happened anyways….I say this to you as the closest brother to you with out mentioning what subclan or subtribe i belong to.,,,,,salaams hope u come to your senses
Burco today is more developed and so is Hargeisa. So give these I suggest you give berbera people some credit. That is if you are a real Somalilaner.
hahahha since when lasnood part of ur made up country.. please stop misleading ur people coz the few horgale soon gona leave when khaatumo stand on its lengs ..
plus reer berbera have the right to stop diigshiil stealing thier warshad
laacaanood is within our border that is Somaliland. So don't bother otherwise we will also support all this against Laascaanood i.e against Somalia. Get a grip on the realitu or looose all.
get a grip on reality. typo
Las Anod is part of so called "somaliland" when they are begging the world assistance and independence, but not when it comes to sharing the wealth or building much needed infrastructure such as roads, hospital, schools, etc.
Las Anod compared to the rest of so called "somaliland" cities is less developed and so is the rest of sool, sanaag and cayn part of the region.
Las Anod has been developed from the time Somaliland has retaken the town. It has emerged from tiny dusty town to full-grown and vibrant small town. It has water sources plant, vibrant commerce, education level that is in line with the rest of Somaliland and has seen many other positive growth. But you asked why is major development is stalled, the reason is because you are engaged in nonsense war with your own people. The rest of Somaliland was not built on money from the government of Somaliland but the strength and hard effort of its citizens, Instead of investing in guns and explosive you can help improve local efforts to build effective town and province. Somaliland spend more of its money to save guard its people and territories because people like u and alshabab are bent on our destruction because you hate what we stand for, freedom, peace, democracy…..fill the blanks….this argument is concocted in coffee shops of North America,,,,wake up, get a job and help your people buy food, build schools not guns.
The Authors way is the right solution. Other bloggers are meddling around dirty waters.
Cheers.
Somalilanders are for supporting all Somalilanders this includes Laascaanood. Who receive free educationa and infrastructure as much as the rest of Somalilanders except for their diaspora who are missing in action. I am sorry for some Somalilanders truly because their diaspora do not give as much as the rest of the Somali nation. However, most of us do recognise for the need of these parts and have step up our good given right to demand justice for us all. I beliebe in all getting their equal right without exception thus I wish for Somalilanders to be given their right to self determination and right to help themselves. Support us and may Alllah give last judegement for the igood in us.
typo: for the good in us.
I think this article laid down the foundations for everything I had in mind. We need more people in media who can put constructive ideas forward like this peace. We must start debating on issues that matter to and move forward.
Just in case some of you have the financial means to participate in. I do have contacts with companies that are willing to invest renewable energy ventures in Somaliland. If you're seriously interested in please let me know so we can exchange information off line.
Osman Qaal
@ Osman5, So let me get this right you have no issues with lack of transparency in government or for that matter the role big businesses plays in government decision making. So in your view all of the above are minor and trivail issues and we should occupy our minds on renewable energy ventures in Somaliland.
Aristotle was right when he said tolerance and apathy are the last virtues of a dying society. Call me an idealist but i wish only rthe best for my country and what we desire to see our country achieve and work to become are not trivial. Somaliland government must fight corruptions in all its forms, because corruption destroys the whole fabric of society.
Madar,
Transparency and accountability are some of the primary elements that required where democracy exists. If you suspected wrong doings in our current administration, accusing government officials and business communities in Somalialand on baseless allegations on the fly isn’t right.
There’re so many civilized ways to get your point across, being aggressive towards others would only make a bad situation to worst. That’s all.
Osman Qaal
If you are a true Madar from the good Madarites I know since Somaliland became really
something since 1993 todate, it surprises me how dare you condone the old unpragmatic
Govts against the current pragmatic democracy open and transparent Kulmiye multiparty
Govt. of its kind much much better than any previous Govts Somaliland has ever been blessed with.
Looking at the political stance of the current Somaliland Govt, I fail to see the real motives of
your critics besides discriminating against certain clan power sharing!. Somaliland is not
compsed for tit for tat struggles..it should be more than your giving away misconceptions!.
Finally, the Current Govt. of Kulmiye is on the most parts administered by Madar Clanship
save President Silaanyo who's your inlaw poor inanlayaal…oh dear me what did I say.
Madar before condemning the current Govt. headed by Silaanyo, look at your Awaaliya clan
who are rag iyo dumarbaa are the cream leaders and call their shots over the Silaanyo's!
Cheers.
SOO BAXBAA LALEEYAHAY OY SACABKA LEEFAYSAA: All those 14 comments so far made about this article are to my dismay, did not read this article and the importance it carries. Please come to your sense, and stop spreading this clannish poisoning comments. It looks that all of you will prefer this country to sink deep. Why we should talk something good for our country? I have once put in an article that, I was AGOON and RAJAY, since 5 years old, and nobody in my so-called Clan, has helped me. Therefore, I don't believe QOLO. It's a parasite that wakes you up, when selfish politician or Koofiyad Cadde, want something for himself, but not for his people. Hence, we shall grow from this menace, and build our country where we can. I get sick and this is true, whenever I see comments like the ones you all made in this beautiful and wisdom based article.
I pray for my fellow citizens to stop this sickening clannish that spreading like wild-fire these days.
@Omer, so if i talk about this government and critisise the stuff they are doing wrong, i am then acting clannish. This is how the jews act and say whenever Israel is critisised and call it anti-semitism.
My answer to you is if i see something wrong i will stand up against it and similarly if i see and hear something good i will applaud it, thats called living in a democracy.
No Mr. Madar, you could say exactly what you want in a different way. Yes, we are democratic state and a good one, otherwise many of our media people, could have end up in jail, because of the information they sometime devulge out of ignorance. There is no country in this world, that accepts baseless allegations and treason of big proportions. Furthermore, we the people of Somaliland are born democratic, but what is happening nowadays is virus, that we should control it.
This is the government we elected, and if there is certain things that they are not doing good, we should go the right way to rectify it, but not through the wide media outlet, were many who are against our country can impersonate and say things are not good for our country. Don't forget that the international community are watching us closely, and those silly remarks could end up in their desks.
@ Omer,
Well done! Mr. Mader and his ilk make baseless accusations, but they have not come up with a single solid evidence to proof their outrageous allegations. Anyone can speculate almost anything and this whole article is warning people not to fall to temptations of false allegations. Thanks to the Somaliland's freedom of press and democracy, I'm sure these people wouldn't have had the luxury of insulting, blackmailing and terrorizing the government and national business under other government on earth other than the current Somaliland administration.

What the Empty Sentimental Words!!!
No physical or financial scarifies, why he involves himself in the Leadership and Dheegshiil' s Capitalism corruptions Predatory .
Same below lines applies to M Obsiye and other corruptions and mismanagement supports
1) The only 10 richest people in USA like: Ted Turner, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Larry Ellison … Their wealth combined is estimated $ 400 Billion and they retained only 30% from their hard earned money and the rest of 70% already given to the world poorest people. Bill Gates Changes the World with Vaccines eradication projects. Bill Clinton's biggest private charity foundation is out of the list.
Please tell the WORLD much how much money your incompetent and corruption officials, Dheegshiil, others and your Riyaale's Companies do give back to their neighborhoods charities houses, let alone ZERO participation in country's development projects but DHeegshiil does in Somalia. For the people they looted with the government power and illegitimate collection wealth.
How come that you are fadelessly denying the basic rights of your immediately families suffering at back home? While you're selfishly living and enjoying in North America with sub-sided basic foods.
@ Dumar,
You are wrong again, the author doesn't live in CA, he is not a Pediatrician and he did not graduate in 2010. This is what is wrong with you guys, you are out of touch and just believe everything you see on the internet.
Dahabshiil has the right to keep all his money or give it away. This is another problem with you and your associates . You simply hate the guy, because he is self-made wealthy person and he made his money decades before Silaanyo came to power.
Dahabshiil contributes money to public projects more than anybody else. Please check your sources before you embarrass yourself in public, may be not, because you do not care or perhaps you have already went beyond all red lines.
Roger, Ok I got it and take below facts
Did the Author and other emasculate mentalities see through all TV Channels aired for whole this week?
When all senior and chiefs from Caynabo, Garaadag to Burco gathered to together in full scale conferences and had announcements of described the Government dangerous leadership ever witnessed in Somaliland since 20 plus years of independence.
They promised , if the Government will not take immediate actions to rescue the nation from this risky chaotic situations of mismanagement and corruptions, there will be very destructive consequence even between the internal community of that Region.
This is what our arguments are based from beginning of chaos till now. So, practically no tribal motivational drive, because the chiffons of his own clans are announced these statements and strong vices against what the government is engaging currently
Hence, what the author and others just paraphrasing is irrelevant and no recommendable solutions elements involved but just cheating, hated old Siad Barre worlds.
@ Dumar,
You are wrong again in all your interpretations, analysis and comparisons. Please keep your facts right otherwise, people will just ignore you and will never respond to your sick comments. Have the decency of telling the truth, unless you are mentally deranged. I live in Somaliland and I know it inside out, none of your allegations and comparisons are right. To be honest, I think you are not even from Somaliland, because you do not behave like one.
@ Dumar
It is Caynaba not Caynabo. Caynabo is a Waloweyn name and you should have known better and been more careful not to pretend that you were from Somaliland. Remember, do not try this stupid tactics with Somalilanders, we are simply too smart to be fooled by Waloweyn like you.
Give me your comments about this Mr Silanyo — who visited Washington, DC ,

Dumar least you can do is spell correctly the name of the guy you're accusing of Evil doing. The correct name is DAHABSHIIL and not Dheegshiil.
..the article is well executed well done!
We come, after effects of hectic self assignment contributions to the London Conference on Somalia and tried to defeat the in view point of Somaliland political positions and I met some of you there. Then, disappeared for in French détente. That was some of my ppppp nonono.
Anyhow, we all can see some really mess going on The Somaliland World Today.
Before I show you one of my favorite PICTURE IMAGE: I thought that our goals and objectives were to take care And defeat our Somaliland common interests to the best maxi of our knowledge and honest efforts as individuals whether in the authority circles or as private citizens.
So, below link is an amazing PICTURE IMAGE that was posted by very young Somaliland girl called Ayan Warsame posted on my account. It has touched deeply my national feeling because the image is carrying an equivalent of millions and millions of words values and saved us for great exert able writing efforts. Already 1000's of members have seen the image in Google Plus (+) only in couple's time.

Let's work for common interest like this our brilliant girl!
Dumar
there's no dheegshiil. Are you talking about Dahabshiil?. Who are you Dumar. Can any good
blogger tell us who this Dumar is? He's nuisance and must be silenced.
Cheers.
@ Mohamed cheers,
Forget it, doesn't deserve attention. Do you expect a Waloweyn to do better than this? Hell no, we don't even know the gender of this bloody thing.
Lol@layla…
The fact that you're all debating the internal policies and the management of the natural resources is a testimony to this article, which is clearly addressing these issues without bringing Somaliland into disrepute. My point is, in a democracy the government has to be held to account by the elected officials and the people as well as the media. But unfortunately, our media and some people who write about these things have unwittingly called the very existence of Somaliland institutions and its democracy into question at a time when the stakes are high.
Somaliland still uses bureaucratic procedures established in the 1960s; therefore, creating a fully workable bureaucratic machine takes long as well resources and knowledge on the ground. I am all for debate and scrutinising the policies of the government but it has to be within the limits of national policy and not an attack on the institutions that Somaliland is built on, which are the only thing that can make us a sovereign nation. Any writer has to think about the time and where we are. We have been sounding like a nation for twenty years, so if we start sounding like tribal and community serfdoms when the dreams may about to become true, we will be destroying all the sacrifice and the hard work that we have done so far.
Take a lead from the author of this article and if you are writing do so in a constructive manner.
The damage is done and the fact is no body can control the tsunami media going to only direction "against the Government" go to any other sites, you will find the same expressions.
But the important situations needed to control are the serious up raising and angrily protesting sentiment problem between the government and Caynaba and Garaadad communities. Otherwise just play with your tribal tattoos meanings and without any solutions for your own communal internal problems and just forget about other saying to the Government.
DUMAR, first of all please state your name, because the one you are using is for all femal gender all over the world, and I don't think its fare.
Secondly, don't you think that you become nuisance to this forum, by placed negative comments, whenever someone tries to say his opinion? You have the right to comments and criticise, but descency and controlled language is needed in our encounter. Please stop and be a gentleman that we can discuss things responsibly. Let me tell you something, my fellow countryman, Somaliland has passed what you are propogating, and there is a rule of law that everyone is accountable. Do not think that we are in 90s, we have built a solid institutions and foundations, that takes care of any eventuality, and our people have decided to cherish the peace and tranquility long time back.
Don't label me clannish, because I am not, and I am not one of those who came to the theater after 1988, but someone who has indepth knowledge of our country and how decided to lift from zero to wht is it is today. Believing tribe will not take you anywhere my friend.
@ Omer,
You are just wasting your time on nobody, Please let the thing bark, just leave it alone. No need to respond to this sick poor thing.
@Omer
Female gender name is dumer, nothing to with Dumar or Dumaar and find out the rest .
I know you talk gently and nationally always, respecting you the same, but the truth on the ground is some thing else. So, realistically we have to bind by and get solution for all these problems Somaliland is facing currently with our best intellectual and honest expressions.
Mr Dualeh, you telling us what all people saw through all Somali speaking TV Channels regarding
the serious situations up raising and angrily protesting sentiment problems between the government and Caynaba and Garaadad communities are TRUTH OR FALSE. If your honest answer is
FASLE then, this our big gap difference. travelling and tight schedule, see you in 3 days on other article.
This is my advice to all Somalilanders;
Please do not attempt to respond to Walo, because you will never ever come to a conclusion. They are superficial in both knowledge of culture and history, they are illogical, they do not have the capacity to attentively listen and make sound analysis and they are a moving target, they just jump from one subject to another.
Of course, there are few exceptions to the above. But even with those exceptions, we have unbridgeable cultural differences.
Forget this Dumar and just ignore it.
Guys just ignore this Dumar character she's like an automated msg and will not quit! I don't think she's a Somalilander because of her line of argument, she keeps reffering to the recent incidents TVyadu so dayeen qabilo qaylinaya for their own personal interests and gains. Most somalilanders were dissappointed & embarrased by their actions as they have painted a very negative & ugly picture of our country. Marka taan "dumar" has taken that & runaway with it to Somalilandpress marka waxaas uun bay regurgitategareynaysa cawo iyo maanto dhan..let her be man!
It's partly our fault because we need to get our house indorder and teach our ppl how they can put their point across and advocate themselves without having to fall back on their sub tribes iyo waxaas….
i can smell a rat. Yusuf Dirir Ali is on dhahabshill payroll. money talks loudly, sadly he is selling his nation. I have seen quite few like him on HCTV defending the interest of dhahabshill not somaliland. they r traitors.
It is not right to censure people's ideas and opinions because it is not yours and does not fit your interest. When the author states going clannish is unacceptable…who is the one that judge and label another person statement as clannish? The Somaliland politicians, leaders and businesses that effect our lives will always be criticized and commented on. Also, it is always a fact, people who benefit the most of the present state of Somaliland, will always defend it and label the opposition as trouble makers, clannish, etc. Also, the author assertion that the effect of citizen's freedom of speech will negatively effect investment and prosperity is a weak argument and a fear tactic that is baseless. With that said, I fully agree with the author that civility and respect is important and crucial in our dialogue.
@Abdi H,
The author is right where there is no stability there will be no foreign investment. The likes of those who claim to own Berbera will scare investors and ruin Somaliland's future. Why do you think the author is benefiting from the current Somaliland administration? any facts or is this one of those stupid allegations we have lately seen in the Somaliland?
kkkkkkkkkk
what is this.
dddddd
Very narrow-minded of some people to turn any intelligent conversation or article into trash o the blink of an eye. The author of this piece is all of intelligent, thoughtful, conscientious, caring and far-sighted. He did not slight any one clan, area or town neither did he anoint any of them. And, yet, there emerge those who believe the natural resources of the country or for one small clan somewhere and that company-bashing is the vogue. Tut! Tut! Tut!
We are all Somalis, and we will always remain Somalis. Somaliland is for Somalis as Somalia is..as Ogadenia is … as Djibouti (partially) is … as NFD is. But, here, the author has valiantly made a case for peaceful co-existence and resource sharing, the benefits of which are for all of us.
Those who think some hooligans can stand in the way for development are mistaken. They cannot halt it. The natural resources are for all of us here to develop. Berbera cannot argue for a Kuwaiti and for some of its 'cal members' on the same breath. Neither can it name-call others when all the names can be its if it does not desist from this self-destructive course it has so vociferously adopted of recent.
Bravo to the author, once more!
