KUWAIT CITY -– The Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah received a visiting Somaliland delegation on Thursday led by the President for security and development talks. Both leaders emphasized the potential to expand ties between the two nations.
President Ahmed M. Silanyo expressed Somaliland’s appreciation of the Kuwaiti government’s continued support in a number of fields including hospitals and the ongoing airport projects. The President briefed his hosts about the ongoing situation in Somaliland. He discussed Somaliland’s commitment to stability, development and its role in the region.
Mr Silanyo spoke of the recent changes in the country and his government’s efforts to promote new policies. He spoke of Somaliland requiring investment and interest from the international community in particular Kuwait and the GCC states. He urged Kuwait to support them with development, direct investment and technical assistance.
Sheikh Dr Mohammad made it clear that the State of Kuwait is ready to push forward with mutually beneficial cooperation and bilateral ties. He added that his government will play its part in supporting the continued development of Somaliland and will introduce more projects to enhance security and improve living standards. He stressed the need to combat elements of insecurity including the issue of maritime piracy off the coast of neighbouring Somalia.

President Silanyo and his delegation also met with Mr. Abdulwahab Al-Bader, the Director-General of the state-run Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), at his office in Kuwait city. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and development projects in Somaliland. The President said while it’s grateful for Kuwait’s current projects which includes US$10m to rehabilitate two airports, it hopes more financial assistance will be forthcoming. KFAED said it stands ready to continue to play its part.
A statement from the Presidential Office said the visiting Somaliland delegation boarded a private helicopter on Wednesday for a short flight to the Emir’s private garden where they were invited for a lunch. They did not disclose if they met with the Emir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
Kuwait is roughly home to more than 4,000 Somalis from Somaliland who expressed their appreciation for the government of Kuwait.

Been ma'ad shegin ; – )
you people from somalia are sick, how can you hate us whn we do good things
I just dont get why you Somalis from Somalia get sick to your stomach every time you see one child being fed in Somaliland or basic services are improved. You are sick people and this is why God punished you and put you in that mess, please clean your hearts.
We dont want to be part of that kind of negative people.
Usually I never get myself involved with insignificant little pricks like you, but really it begs the question, Why are you even on this website? why do you even care? if you're so much against the existence of this wonderful nation and soon to be sovereign state, why are you even on this website reading about their affairs?
It's belligerent backward people like you that put a lump on my throat. Couple of years I despised people like you, but you know what, I actually pity your kind now, because I see how much it hurts your soul every time your read about the forward progress and achievements happening in this wonderful country.
You're a sad pathetic little kid, rooted by tribalism and obsolete ideologies held only by the minuscule like minded selfish and idiocracy seeking people from which you reside.
Do something constructive with your time and educate yourself and your people and come up with something worthy of our acknowledgement, understand this and understand this well little boy, SOMALILAND exists, has existed and prevailed for 20 years and will exits 20 years from now as a sovereign estate, that I can assure you.
Well said Mr. A/Rahman. I wonder why too. Sick people indeed and full of venom, hatred. These are the kind of people who want us to go back with them. The more they unleash their hatred and toxic remarks, the more we thank God and vow to be determined that we will never ever be part of them again. One reaps what he sows and that exactly what we are witnessing for the last 20 years.
abdirahman sadly this particular imbecile may not have the capacity to understand such words, as he has as much i q as any mountain ape………….may apologies if some apes find the comparison bit un fair
ka nax or nafta wa. Somaliland is getting stronger and on their way to a full statehood. The enemies of our great nation inc. those Somali warmongers are shedding crocodile tears and am lovin it.
I did a little research and it seems Kuwait Fund for Arabs Development is the Kuwait version of US-Aid. So they will be able to give grants and technical assistance directly to Somaliland.
You are not right Onki
1- US-Aid USA use it for it's political advantage against poor & weak counties and many time food they donate is very bad Nigeria throw there food in the sea it was not even good for animals. Also US_AID is about mostly food not development
2- Kuwait Fund for Arabs Development is totally different it many dose nation building, they focused on building dams, roads, hospitals, schools irrigation, electricity, water treatment, and many more have to do with infrastructure. See there web site also have a magazine in arabic flash http://www.kuwait-fund.org/
well done somaliland, this is a great move for the somalilanders, i saw some comments from people from somalia, why the hate?
just do what si good for your country and if u hatre soo much stop rreading our news is just as simple as that, us somalilanders when we see an artical about somalia we dont bother read it and we dont go on your websites because we are a better nation.
@ All Guys, please find the following data about Kuwait Fund for Arabs Development' s for 2010 global funding operations which totaled Us$ 1.2 Billion or 322 million Kuwaiti Dinars only for one year.
Somaliland will get good lion share soon, if we works hard and closely with Kuwaitis thanks to Mr. Omer Arteh Galib who was some time the Vitim of Zaid Berre and ordered him death penalty while he was in his jail. But luckily King Khalid of Saudi Arabia saved his life and made us Arab members within six monthly with no objection session .

Abdu it seems to me that it is not essential to mention the names of our previous poiticians while we are__talking about the how to get Aid & recognition from our Arab brothers.
They should give us only 50 million dinars. We can revive the whole nation with that, roads, port, airports, water and sanitation projects, coastguard and security, food security, cement factory and exporting cement to growing Ethiopia who are building hundreds of highways and roads (this is gold)…once we do that within 10 years we will return their 50 dinars and open kuwaiti hotels, golf courses and cruise rides along the red sea…we build a national park in Sheikh town and name after the Sheikh of Kuwait, once a while give him full access for hunting which the Sheikh loves.
We will also set up tuna factories along our rich coast and give Kuwait access to cheap Sea food, flying to Kuwait every hour.
The possibilities are endless with Somaliland, a nation waiting to be explored.
Abdu Berry what does Cumar Carte has to do with all this? cajiib..
I believe hat Somaliland according to Kuwait is an Arab nation so we fall under the share for the Arab nations which is the HIghest Amount $971,326,133.21 … more than 900 million
Omar Arteh is a traitor and served Afweyne to the last minute. If he said long time ago that he supports Somaliland all the Arab nations would have opened their doors for Somaliland. I am telling you Arab kingdoms love Allah, Prophet Mohammad (SAW) then they love Omar Arteh.
The Saudis even gave him his own petroleum company…he is the one that told the Arabs to block Somaliland and here is why. He made millions putting Somalia on the Arab League to please KSA and Egypt. He and the Arabs know Somalis have nothing to do with Arabs but they came up with the idea that Somalis are Arabs because Egypt needed someone to protect the Nile River and to fight on behave of them, the perfect candidate was Somalis, so they came up with that genius idea.
Omar Arteh looks innocent but he is one evil man and I am aware his son wants to open a political party so he can take Somaliland back to Mogadishu like his father.
Omer Arteh was a man of Vision… a man of Mission… not only for Somalia or Somaliland… but for the entire Muslim Nation…. He was and still is the most pure politician, who never sold his nation or pride for sake of corruption… He lives in Riyadh with his family and is no longer involved in politics… A good example of his Vision, is when he founded the idea of Afro Arab Cooperation, along with Jammal Abdul-Nasir which became a successful cooperation against the interest of Israel during the 1970 to 1977… The fallback of that cooperation occurred due to the change of the major issues upon which this cooperation was based, and it was when Anwar Saadaat opened relations with Israel that African countries withdrew from the cooperation. So again, Omar Arteh is not a Hero for Somalis or Somalilanders only… but Omar Arteh is considered a Hero for all Muslims, a great Legend that played a major role in international conciliation.
Omar Arteh single handly added Somalia to the Arab League with Egypt and KSA's support…he made millions from this. He keeps his wealth secret and in the Saudi Kingdom. Now Egypt is not under Hosni, so Somalia is unwanted. Arabs want changes. The Kuwaiti Emir understands the Somli affairs more than any other Arab, he lived and visited Somalia…he knows Somalilanders are the brain the rest are just thiefs
Hey Watch out folks. Time & tide wait for no man. Since the merged partnership union of
Somaliland Somalia on 1st July 1960., becoming the Somali Republic, Somalia never appreciated
good governance which finally totally failed collapsed in 1991. Since then Somaliland is no longer part of
the Somali Republic. Neither does Somalia uses the S.R. nor S.D.R. Instead it uses Somalia Republic
which is not Somali Republic or Somali democratic Republic. After 1991, there are two Nation State
call them either A de facto or A de jure. As a matter of facts, The S.R/S.D.R.Abject failures were solely
attributed to the top different Civilian and/or Military Regimes of the Somalis. It's not appropriate to blame
the AL.Egypt KSR for the Somalis tribalism conflicts. MR. Omar Arteh Ghalib was the Fm when
the S.D.R Military Regime was in power and the Somalis became a member of the AL because of
their African Arab Nationality identity..nothing wrong with that. He also had an opportunity to serve as pm
for the failed Manifesto interim caretaker Regime headed by ALI Mahdi who hijacked the USC victory
freedom struggle who ousted the Military Regime from Southern parts of Somalia.
part2
MR. Omar Arteh
Ghalib left politics since 1993 and shouldn't be implicated and/or associated with the Somalis
problems since then upto this day and time around. However both Somaliland and Somalia are now
in different times and if Somaliland is now really ice breaking to foster special bilateral relationship
and good co-operation with Kuwait and the GCC and the AL why not??? Hopefully the Somaliland
delegation will strike maximum benefits to fund the much needed funds to develop and modernise
many vital major projects of their country.
Cheers.
As a Somalilander, I must say the two visits to the UAE and Kuwait by President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud and his delegation have been a great success. I hope it leads to concrete results. The silence you hear from certain anti-Somaliland quarters is deafening. This kind of success proves that Somaliland is a progressive and democratic beacon in a hostile part of Africa.
This is the sort of trip Somaliland needs to contact with the outside world. Every step we take in the right direction counts. If the Kuwaitis improve our airports that means we will have access to new flights, that means we will connect to new world. If the Kuwaitis help with our water issue, that means money now going towards drought reliefs from our friendly nations, companies and the Diaspora, will go towards other projects. Day after day we are closing holes, less holes more progress. Rome was not built in a day they say and Somaliland is no different. Twenty years ago, Somaliland was a war zone full of landmines and graveyards, today, we live in great peace.
We have the resources, men power and right ideas, we just need to stay focus, stay united and be patient.
In the meantime, I suggest to the government to make arrangements with the State of Israel…we need a lot of the things they have and they need a Muslim ally. Let God be the judge who created us and lets show the children of Adam can work together on a common goal.
My Israeli friends are already in Hargeisa..
Mr Kayse, I doubt you are a Somalilander in the first place. You know well the sensitivity between Arabs and Israeli. We do not have any times with Israel yet. What is the reason of mentioning it now , when we are trying to better our relations with Arabs- our neigbours at the other end. We have no problem to have relations with any country in the world. But due to our needs and position things have to prioritized first!
Mr. Keyse you are ludicrous. Somaliland is small, unrecognized and poor; it has no time to play with big balls. In the future things may have a different twist. No doubt Somaliland is emerging nation but before u jump to the most controversial issue in our life learn to act as peace maker in your region, as we speak Eriteria and Ethiopia are about to wage war on each other again, defuse that first and open dialogue on both sides, Eritrean may not like us, but we don’t want to see them suffering.
Omar Arte is an old fool.
you're the fool! he might have saved your family's life
My intention was to focus the President's visits in Gulf Countries and exploited and to maximum leverage for Somaliland interest base on, from 1943 Chart of Arab League principal objectives are promoting cooperation and coordination among them. The League is active in the political, economic, social, and environmental and communication fields, with a specific sector dedicated to values of justice and equality of societies, and to strengthening cooperation and consultation between organizations with mutual interests. Its objectives were closer unity between members, the safeguarding of their sovereignty and co-ordinate political action on Arab questions. The same applies to Islamic Conference and relative institutions.
But you missed the main focus and general interest because, generally the little knowledge and lacking of history is very dangerous!
Your Expression was the commonest psychiatric illness with prevalence. As the surprise of your vandalism words " "grave and vile" based on sub clan of sectarian negative perceptions to superior rooted personalities which you fed by your in-house anti –slave sentiments of tribalism inferiority and that termed "tribal phobia menace slavery. To know more about Omer Arteh's history being my guest in next time.
Omer Arteh was a man of Vision… a man of Mission… not only for Somalia or Somaliland… but for the entire Muslim Nation…. He was and still is the most pure politician, who never sold his nation or pride for sake of corruption… He lives in Riyadh with his family and is no longer involved in politics… A good example of his Vision, is when he founded the Afro Arab Cooperation, along with Jammal Abdul-Nasir which became a successful cooperation that operated against the interest of Israel during the 1970 to 1977… The fallback of that cooperation occurred due to the change of the major issues upon which this cooperation was based, and it was when Anwar Saadaat opened relations with Israel that African countries withdrew from the cooperation. A man incomparable with anyone that's out there today, the only people we can compare him to are the Legendaries during and before his time, such as Malcolm X and Sukarno of Indonesia. People of Vision and Mission, not people with limited sight, who are not only incompetent, but also hungry for corruption. The following link takes you to a simple reference of one of his international conciliations.
