Islamists authorise hyena meat in Southern Somalia

MOGADISHU — Residents in the port city of Kismayo have began consuming hyena meat for the first time after Al Shabab militants approved it, Hiiraan Online reports.
Hunting, trading and eating of hyena produce is spreading in the area, which led to a shock among the locals.
Anonymous mother in Kismayo told Hiiraan Online that the consumption of this meat increased in the city in the past few months.
She says the price of hyena meat has risen and it is affordable to only rich people slowly become a local delicacy.
Consumption of hyena meat became a matter of discussion to the puplic, which is historically very alien to the Somali culture.
Another resident in Kismayo told Hiiraan Online that there are some restaurants that began serving hyena meat with different menu.
According to Islamic teachings consuming the meat of scavengers is prohibited, but Alshabab insists that this kind of meat is approved by Islam.
Islamic scholars in Kismayo gave contradicting interpretations to the matter.

This story reminds me a funny thing that once occurred in Burao a long time ago. A man killed a hyena in the countryside and brought its meat to Burao town for sale where he started by advertising that his commodities could cure many different diseases. Within two days of that incident, the hyenas in the bush started hunting the relatives of that man and killed four of them in different localities of the countryside.
Now, the crazy al-shabab opened another dangerous front to encounter. Or does Ina Godane mean the AU troops from Djibouti currently stationed in Somalia can change themselves into hyenas?

By the way the saudis eat hyenas in the desert and they say it is halal. They say that there is a specific Hadith that nabi Mohammad pease be upon him had mentioned hyena as a halal meat. I can't recall it, but you could search for it.

What is coming out of Somalia is tragic day after day. Way to drag Our Somali Name first, then Our Somali Culture and now Our Religion to the ground. I wonder what is next. |n my life time I have never imagine that I could witness such transformation of everything we hold dear, especially in somali soil. It wasn't long ago that I heard with my own ears, people coming to the defence of Alshebabe and their actions, and those were not brain-washed kids folks, but rather grown men and women from Somalia. This just left me speachless. We have seen PIRACY, NEPOTISM, CLANISM, CORRUPTION, SUICIDE BOMBING, RELIGOUS EXTREMISM, and now PERMITING OF HARAM. It is extremely hard for me to really comprehend or explain away this repugnant transformation of everything we hold dear as S.
It is time Keyse and his kind in Somalia start focusing on their problems instead of sitting on their behind and making their full time job hating on all that is good and triumphant in Somaliland to restore all the character damage somalis in Somalia has done to the somali name. War of words, militancy, envy and hate will never diminish Somaliland's achievements and progress, maybe it is time to look within and take care of yourselves first brothers/sisters. And for those few good brothers and sisters in Somalia who have to live with and deal with these malicous beasts, our prayers go out to you for you have lot of work for you to do….but you might begin with disinfecting these germs first. Actually there might be some strategy behind this:
1) A hyena might have snatched one of few young Al-Shabaab recruits in the wild, so could it be frustration with the animals.
2) Even in the west, one way to control nuisance species is to turn them into a local delicacy.
3) Since Al-Shabaab hide in the bush, they have to compete with these predators for wild game, so this is a way of eliminating competition.
Bottom line, is that there is very likely a strategy behind this.

I think Al-shabaab is suffering food shortage, as such they are promoting new sources of food uptake. And it could stir fear among the AMISOM troops, that the pple of lower-Juba, arte hyene-meat eaters. You, some african groups are superstitous.
We humans should eat anything and everything as long as it's considered edible whether it's for survival or delicacy, so, we're always remained on the top of the food chain. If the hyena meat tastes ok I'm going to be the first one to experiment it in any given day.
