Horn of Africa Business Association optimistic about Somaliland

With Europe and North America currently enduring economic hard times it should come as little surprise that a number of companies and enterprising individuals have begun to seek out new and potentially lucrative markets. Africa is seeing unprecedented growth in a variety of sectors ranging from aggregates and agriculture to telecommunications and the service sector.
What might once have been seen as frontier markets are now entering the mainstream and such is the demand for solid market intelligence and credible contacts that the Horn of Africa Business Association (HABA) has been launched in London with the intention of facilitating business engagement with and within the Horn and the Greater Horn. HABA works with following countries: Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and Somaliland (The Horn of Africa), Kenya, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda (The Greater Horn) as well as forging further business links with Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania.
“China and India have both recognized the opportunities and we are aware that businesses in other countries are waking up too. HABA is endeavouring to meet a real need and the market is considerable: 12 countries – 278 million people – 1 dynamic region.” – Mohamed Yussuf Ali, Operations Director, HABA.
With regional improvements in infrastucture HABA believes that futher business opportunities will open up for Somaliland and the wider region. Recently the European Development Fund announced it is prepared to provide 3.8 million euros for a feasibility study for the Berbera-Togochale road.
As well as having a consultancy division HABA offers a range of benefits to its members:
• Supplying them with a wealth of useful information through programs and communications, including policy and market developments
• Offering seminars, symposiums and workshops with a view to more effective understanding of the dynamics and opportunities of the region
• Facilitating networking between members
• Leveraging on commercial/ trading relations; key relationships with embassies and high commissions in London and with governmental entities throughout the Horn and the Greater Horn.
Such has been the interest in HABA that it has already been approached to establish chapters in Dubai (UAE), Kampala (Uganda) and Mumbai (India).

I have no optimism about Somaliland. Somaliland is doomed to fail if it does not change its ways and stop the barbaric discrimination of its own people. Somaliland will go nowhere if it does not reform its legal system, apply its constitution and laws, bring to justice those who break the law, treat all citizens equally, and stop the outdated tribalism so rampant in its governance.

Looks HABA is a new replacement of the purposes of Igad. Looking back we all know how

The you tube posted here took place more than a year ago. That problem was solved immediately and no one is complaining now. FYI Sultan Nadiif whom you saw on that video is one of the diehard supporters of Kulmiye government.
In Somaliland we make mistakes, but we correct our mistakes as soon as possible that is what makes us apart from other Somalis.
Somaliland is number one problem solver.
Had the criminals responsible for beating two innocent Somaliland women nearly to death brought to justice and jailed for years? Are those police officers who neglected their duties to protect the two women sacked or are they still wasting tax-payers' money? Had the government of Somaliland apologised to those women for failing to protect them and were those victims compensated for their ordeal? This is not the first time the minority Gabooye community in Somaliland got mistreated and oppressed in this way by the uncivilised ignorant Isaaqs and others who share the land with them. This systematic oppression has been going on for centuries and still nothing has changed. Just tell your parents or friends that you are planning to marry from the Gabooye community and see their reaction. Ignorant foqal ignorant !!!

The Gabooye Community I know off are the most industrious, entrepreneur and the most beautiful.
In Africa every tribe has it's own problems and even the non-gabooye tend to undermine each other.
How many more bad unfortunate incidents happened after this minor event which happened more than a year ago and presumably dealt with lawfully. it's not only in Africa but a global Village Phenomena. What's bothering you buddy…Are you a Gabooye ilk.

You call the lynching, stripping, stabbing, and dragging of two Somali Muslim women in the streets of a Somaliland town by a gang of barbarians a minor incident?? Had those two women been from a major tribe, Somaliland could have been engulfed by a civil war. Just because those women belonged to an oppressed minority tribe and their misery made no headlines you dismissed it as a non-issue!! This is the sort of attitude which allowed the rights and dignity of the poor Gabooye people to be trampled upon with no one protesting or speaking up on their behalf. You asked me if I were Gabooye, but I should ask you if you are from CEEBnabo and know by name or protecting the Neanderthals who attacked our Muslim sisters?
