And our government just realised this crisis!! What a scandal!! Any respectable government would have fought the effects of the drought from its onset not just when the problems reach a crisis proportion.
Asalam,
To the government of Somaliland…why don't you ask your Arab brothers to help you out with a desalination plant of the coast of Berbera?
The worst thing is you can't even eat the free fish or sea in our ocean because it is so toxicated due to years of dumping nuclear waste (because of our wars no government to speak on our behalf) from foriegn envy who want to wipe out somalis and take over the horn, cause of it stratgical post. A drop of this toxic infects 300 billion gallons of water, some of it is buried in our coastal line several deforming and destroying humans, animals and the environment, I am not sure if this has anything to do with the worst drought for 60 years. but cutting trees to make chacoal for cooking has a big impact on the lack of rain as tree magnetical pull clouds that is why you always get most of the rain where ever there is more trees. The government need to limited how many trees are cut every day and two should be planted for every one that is cut, and why is not they being wells dug all over the place I think the government and the wealth somalilanders need to start doing something about this crisis before it gets worst straight away instead of just chewing around. lets all make dua if we can't send no money back home.
I do not mean to sound selfish or tribal or anything, but why is the government worried about sending $600,000 (approx.) and other aid to the south when the citizens of Somaliland are suffering just as bad. Where is the logic?
Doesn't charity always start at home!
The somaliland government send the money to gain furter to the regonization, not to help the southern somalis, it was an investment.
No their intention was good to begin with, but unfortunately they forgot to help their fellow citizens first before helping others. Regardless though a good deed in the site of Allah(swt) is still a good deed especially if the ones doing it are themselves struggling.
Fear Allah brother and stop this madness. You are only increasing the amount of sins you will have to answer for on Judgment day.
Or may be they thought that everyone in Somaliland was like them living in a large villa, driving a Land Cruiser, and eating a feast everyday of the year. Utterly shameful!!
Scandal, Scandal, Scandal………………………..
The reason(s) there is a severe drought is simple: water wells need to be dug and people have to stop cutting down trees for charcoal. S/landers need to dig wells themselves and not expect international NGOs to do this for them. Furthermore, S/land gov can ask oil/gas producing nations to provide us with subsidised fuel until we develop our economy to a level where all s/land people can afford to buy gas canisters at market prices. Countries such as Venezuela, Iran, Malaysia, Libya, etc gladly give us subsidised fuel BUT we have to ask them. You don't ask you don't get. But for God sake, stop cutting down our trees otherwise severe droughts will turn s/land into a desert.
SNM & cronies stay away from Awadal,SSC & Makhir States their stand is known World wide.
Buraleh, waxba haysku kab kabin Awdal or Makhir for that matter. Minority cid ay garab saarto u baahan baad tahay oo kula yaabi maayo. Awdal and Makhir are part of Somaliland and they are happy where they are.
let us all stand for helping our drought and famine affected people,,, god bless somaliland.
Somaliland is a country which does not produce anything. The only income that come to us from life stock and they are dieing due lack of rain and we got rain it goes away without taking advantage of it. The nomads don't know any better and the government is worest than the nomads.
First of all I was there earlier in the year the problem is water access. Droughts happen, its the horn of Africa for God sake its not like we live in a damn rain forest! We just need to build wells for the nomads, help with irrigation for those people that actually live in areas where they produce their own food throught personal gardens.
We also should have an institution that is able to help drought striken people who cant go to dahabshiil and pick up money from family members in the west because they wont have anyone in the west to lend them a hand! We need to pull together, and we have been doing well considering what Somalia is going through, but we could do better! Lets remember the drought in Somaliland is much worse than Somalia because our climate is more arid, so kudos to our government and people, lets do something all of us that live in the west and extend a hand

@Waryaha
You are correct in your statement that toxic waste is an issue that effects all Somalis. However, the main ingredient that is missing from the public discourse regarding this issue is sincerity. The two related issues of foreign dumping and the pirating could have easily been resolved had their been the political will on the behalf Somaliland and Puntland to set aside their differences and work together for the greater good of the Somali people. Unfortunately, however, the common stance that has been taken has been one of arrogance and tribal bigotry.
What do you think would happen to the growing piracy and foreign dumping if both regions signed cooperative agreements to jointly monitor the Somali coast? This issue of piracy would end!
Try explaining that to Faroole :)
Togdheer regions 30,500. as compared to all other SL regions…that means Togdheer the biggest
land stretched and populationwise/animalwise is trekking a fine line looooooool.
