Over recent weeks the Somaliland Press has been both disturbed and saddened by the nature of some of the comments being posted on this website. Whilst we are happy to see such a range of opinions we cannot permit the Somaliland Press to become a vehicle for people to abuse one other, make defamatory remarks or simply trade insults. The Horn of Africa faces a raft of challenges, and yet the people of the region invariably display a spirit of independence, creativity and great hospitality. It is our earnest wish that this website becomes the premier window onto the region and as such we ask all contributors to be temperate in their use of language and engage in debate in a constructive rather than destructive manner. We earnestly believe that the Somaliland Press has a positive role to play in knowledge dissemination and Insha’Allah those who feel moved to make posts will do so in a spirit of mutual respect.
Thank you for your continued support and interest in the site.

Dear web master,
It is your responsibilities to edit and remove, anything that do not contribute to positive discussions, there are people whose jobs has become to write nothing but use false words against one clan. This website should be for educating others about positive roles that Somaliland plays in this part of the world. But when someone uses names like puntland or ssc as a user names you should know what their intention is, so please do not post things on your website, when someone uses these kind of names and post something nonsense.
Dear Mr. or Miss Administrator we are aware that you are not fair. We all really appreciate that this Web should be based on freedom of opinion.
Mr. Adinistrator you edit and delay what ever pleases you. Commen sence teaches us to listen and understand those who have different opinion.
togdheer, we have freedom of speech and need to respect the different opinions as long as we are honest and contribute positively to educate each other and learn from each other and listen to each other. I rarely hear comments from Hawiye here, the people who hate, attack Somalilanders, spread hate, lie and post filthy and un-Islamic comments and impersonate others and people from other regions are Darood. We know that for a fact and we don't need this kind of abuse or toxic environment. These people have to go somewhere else to spread their hate.

stop using the name togdheer because we know you are not from there. Its real shame that you cannot even come up with a real name or at least one that represent your region so do yourself a favor and find another site.
to stop this maddness simply don,t allow daroods to comment on this site because lets be honest hawiye don,t say or write have the things that come out of reer puntlands man
Well its your ignorance that the administrator is trying to cure, but ignorance can only be cured by education and open heart, Please open your eyes and clean the sickness from your heart, this is not about Darood, Hawiye, Isaaq, this site is the mouth piece of a nation and the nation includes every clan. we do not want someone like yu in Somalialnd.
I am very sorry to tell you,Webmaster, that you post only those posts that dance to your political tune. As a Somalilander, I have the right to express my political view without insulting or pointing fingers on others. I don't understand why your site is sensitive if someone says that recognition is not on the horizon. Don't we have the right to demand our elected leaders not to mislead the public but tell them the truth?
Thanks.
@ Dhagax, If you think recognition is not on the horizon it doesn't mean Somaliland press have to agree or stop posting articles and comments from the world believing otherwise. It may frustrate you that others wish for recognition despite a few who think otherwise but you're frustration are others hope and wishes. So I am sorry to tell you that most of us Somalilanders want to continue our quest against all odds. I hope you will not let you're frustrations reflect on you're comments but rather try to understand you're reasoning has not been accepted by most.
Dear Somalilandpress,
I personally would like comments that are attacking religion as well as propoganda that has no proof of bearing to be deleted. Insults are normally used by those who are deliberating offending readers because they do not wish you to display positive image of JSL. However, I particular do not like those attacking each others religion or sexist or racists comments which to me are very offensive. Whatever political views we have we should not allow deliberate insults that offend to remain. The situation in East Africa is disturbing and so I expect some unsavoury reactions but still we have a duty to not allow deliberate attacks that have no bearing on the subject at hand.
Regards
Read the above comment and you find to many insults to Darood it wrong it is your cultural to disrespect people and the cry for respect.
And maybe it's in your culture to swear, post shameful filthy comments, kill people, lie, be selfish and envy people etc. Lets be realistic the filthy comments that was being posted in somalilandpress was beyond imagination and against our culture and religion and you come here with that cheek complaining about daroods being insulted.
Darood owns most of Somaliland territory and you are insulting them day and night. So how you want to build or became a viable, respectful community. Could your ears hear your big and filthy mouth. Common be fair man.
Suudi, what percentage of Somaliland population are you 10% or 15%? It is not quite the majority, is it? No wonder, you impersonate, Gudabuursi, Isse, Jabouti and everybody else to compensate for the minority you are! Besides, we don't insult anybody, we react to your filthy insults like you are doing right now. So, why don't you respect yourself and take your vularity and foul mouth elsewhere?

you insult first and then you complain that is not right thing to do.
Whether the Darood owns most is debatable and I disagree. It seems the current situation in Somalia may be what is offending you? If the actions of you're brethrens bother you don't blame others or attack others for reporting about it. If you feel an article or comment is wrong all you need to do is correct not insult. It is an excuse to say it is OK to insult others because you felt insulted first. You're view that Darood own most of Somalia may be offensive to so many or seen as arguable at the least by many but it doesn't warrant a direct insult but one can disagree respectfully. This is the point i.e you claiming that it is in our culture doesn't help you're argument either its false image and so insulting and sly addition which cancels you're own creditability.
Gobaad,
Can you read the maps? If yes find Somali political maps and read it. Seek knowledge before you say something filthy to any one in you damned and unlucky region.
The sons of old women are known bustards and they have no principles, religion which they believe and culture. They love devil and infidels.
Gaab,
A healthy debate is commendable from both parties but insulting whole clans is something one has to avoid. As a side note, Somali geneology has no legs to stand on. It has been proven historically and anthropologically that is it a man made social alliance. We are all the same, we share the same DNA (E1b1b1b1a1), the same religion and language with minor dialectical differences.
At the end of the day, we are all Somalis and share the same land mass-the peninsula called HORN of Africa. It is high time how to learn live together peacefully as brothers in a civilized society where clan doesn't matter but brotherhood is t what counts.
We have to get rid of this primitive and backward mentality of Clannism.
Thanks.
If you can't behave don't seek the reaction of the other people dummy boys and girls.
Susan Hersi's great grandma was from your clan and she inherited her mis behavior from her.
Remark:
Check your last comment on Tannok's article.
I quite your website good by suckers. No more my nice comments.
Somalilandpress has failed to deliver information and their reporting capacity is no longer fair or credible the information minister and any honest minister should conduct an inquiry on all media outlets and their contact with police, governments ministers and couruptt stakeholders. This website should be closed immediatley for the protection of the country. Before we become a nation like Djibouti or Kenya. Read and watch their media and you will be sick.
This was my last comment on this disgraceful website.
Mashallah glad to hear it! Good Bye and all the best
Finally the Website Administrator said something I agree with. As an outsider (i.e. not a Somalilander, not a Puntlander, not a Hawiye, not SSC) but a Somali nonetheless the name callings should stop. I have learned somethings here both positive and negative. I have learned the various qabils and history that form the Somali nation, that is the positive. I have also learned the various qabils and history that form the Somali nation, that is the negative. The dichotomy is ironic. So much richness in our culture yet the fissures are ever deeper and ever wider between the clans. My goodness it is the 21st century. Other people are making nano-technology, next generation rockets, cars that can drive and park themselves, yet our mentality is back in the, well, pick your century.
I hate no Isaaq. I hate no Gadabursi. I hate no Darood. I hate no Hawiye. I hate no one. SL Press I commend you for allowing various opinions posted without censorship. You have earned credibility stripe from me and others who are unbiased. To be honest I wish WE in Djibouti had a free press eventhough my Uncle (father's side, adeer) is the President.
Dear Jabuutaawi, yes I know we are in the 21st century, however unfortunately not everyone is on board. Some of our friends are frozen in time. So I am picking a century for our Darood friends. How about the beginning of the stone age?
Brother jabuuti
I can only say you guys should say Alhamdulilah and thank Allah. You have escaped a great MESS, death and destruction by not uniting with Somalia
As Somaliland Press becomes more popular and more influential, it is bound to attract some people who have nothing better to do than use vile language, insults and derogatory remarks. This is all part of an attempt to drive visitors away. I would think that the administrators should be aware of this tactic. I advice true Somalilanders and any other interested parties who wish to debate in a free, frank and civil manner to do so, and not to be discouraged by the "usual" crowd. Remember if you find a comment on this forum to be reprehensible, then click on the report icon.
Somaliland press must regulate their sites to stop the perennial abuse of it. I suggest you moderate what people write and delete the nonsensical ones.
It shameful and embarrassing to read what some people write here. Could they not use their time wisely and, at least, learn some English. When you see people yapping about politics and governance but cannot express themselves clearly, you wonder what contribution can they add to the country?
Maybe it the product of half-baked education many receive in the country and assume they are well qualified to insult others – surely little knowledge can be dangerous!
Somalilandpress must be proactive in cleaning their website from filth.

Your picture if it is real then you are the missing link which Darwin mentioned or new Gorilla or ape specie.
Come on man! Show some love.
Why don't you show your face? My biology textbook says that the missing link between us and the Gorilla are the Neanderthals or in other words- your specie. And by the way, how did you learn to use a computer? Using a computer must surely be a giant leap for Neandalthalkind!!
You are right.
There is a difference between free speech and hate mongering and outright lies. I mean come on saying that Darood settles on most of Somaliland give me a break! Every Somali knows thats bull. Even you deep down know its bull. My suggestion to SomalilandPress is if you support Somaliland make sure these idiots dont have an outlet. This site is marketing and if you fail in it you fail Somaliland and its people who are working soo hard to build this nation, its institutions around democracy and the rule of all.
This is our gateway to the world. I recently heard that Somaliland will have a radio service that can be heard all over eastern africa. I hope and pray that they do a better job because our RECOGNITION depends on it.
You cant half a** this stuff walalo ask the SNM if they half a**ed their freeing us from Siad no they didnt, they stepped up to the plate! God Bless them and your site needs to STEP UP and lead our nation in cyberspace and make sure our image isnt tarnished by lies, false information and dirty language!
I might sound harsh, but nothing worth having comes easy. Stop trying to please everyone! Your main audience is Somalilanders! They want a clean site with thoughtful news, give it to them. And remember its not Puntlanders and haters that come to this site its your own people. SERVE them and you WIN. Stop trying to please these idiots, because if you continue you wont have a leg to stand on!
Just look at the Tannock article. Here is a westerner expressing his opinion on the matter of Somaliland's recognition and BAM 60 plus comments. This type of situation also arises on other popular Somali sites such as Hiraan. Every time they post ANY article regarding Somaliland the number of comments almost always reach close to 100. Why and what is the point? What is also more interesting is how the individuals posting on this site are mostly all Somalis from the diaspora. So how can we discuss Somali unity when the hatred amongst Somalis is deeper amongst the diaspora than it is IN Somalia.
I conclude by saying look at how Somalia and its people are viewed today. In the developed world, we are a charity case and the perfect example of what a failed state looks like. In Muslim world, we are used as a warning sign by dictators like Gaddafi (Libya) and Ali Abdullah Salah (Yemen). They both have said that "you don't want to be like Somalia" or " or be careful lest we become like the Somalis"
Kudos to you Warya. We have become the laughing stock of the world, an exemplary to what is termed a failed state. It is a diplomatic expression which reflects a 'failed people'. Somalis are failures but they don't realize it. Everyone is in a clan shell portrays itself as a grandiose entity that others envy!. Weird, isn't it?
We are the bottom in every social index of the world, yet we are insulting each other without exception. Are we mentally handicapped? Why then, we cannot get the grip of our worst enemy: Clannism. I am so disappointed with our people when I see how ignorant and low we have become, especially the diaspora!.
I agree with you 99% dear brother except for the envy comment. I do not THINK Somalis envy I KNOW Somalis envy regardless of tribe. I guess we can call it a character deficiency. I have seen it and experienced in the diaspora myself. Even when it comes to simple matters like playing sports or marriage, Somalis almost always have a way of ruining things out of spite. Somalis people sabotage other peoples marriages out of envy, they boycott certain events out of spite and envy and even copy other peoples business ideas out of envy. But here is the kicker, we LOVE and ADORE all other non-Somali cultures – white, European, Arab etc.
That why I think Somaliland is hated and envied. We all love Djibouti without exception and we certainly do not mind if the NFD or Kenyan Somalis join Kenya, so what makes Somaliland special? I say nothing! Somalia is a failed state and we as a united peoples have failed miserably. So what if Xamar decided to do its own thing, I wouldn't hold anything against them. I would wish them all the best just like Djibouti and the NFD. However, Somali people are retarded on many levels. The people arguing against Somaliland aren't talking for the sake of unity, but out of a strange sense of spite. If I do not have peace you don't deserve to have peace. If I can't have a good life and development then you shouldn't be allowed to have those things as well. We should all keep the status quo and either rise together or be buried together. No one is better than the other. kkkkk what kind of mentality is that? It is Somalism 101
Sorry, Somalia became the laughing stock of the world not Somaliland.
I agree that everybody atleast adheres to ethics of writing, insult to person, clan etc should not to be accepted by web-admin- inkasta oo soomaalida laga karaynin aflagaados.
Goobaad, somali proverb tells us “Fool carries its own trap in its hands”. How come you dare to say this people represent majority, that people are minority. That seem to me you firing your self on the leg.
If combination of Sool, Sanaag and Awadal are regarded minority, I would say let god make the road very easy one for you!
Hello to everyone, this's my first comment/contribution. I like this website regardless of my political views but what i don't like is the kind of language used by many here. We need to see the admins doing their job and edit some comments, what's going on has nothing to do with freedom of speech and if it's necesary let's petition for a tougher handling of the situation.
It's a myth to believe every darood (or southerner) is anti-Somaliland or every Isaaq is pro-Somaliland. Different individuals have different political views and no one should be insulted or looked down because of their opinions. A good and decent somali let's say from Puntland (since i'm not from there) is my brother and friend. On the other hand, i'm against bad guys even if they are my relatives, it's a simple pricinple of life most somalis are missing.
Lack of justice is the root of all problems somali people are facing today and killings are still going on in some areas. I totally understand If some somalis no longer believe in Somaliweyn because of what happened in the past but at the same time i shouldn't be make fun of if i said i'm a somali nationalist and i believe everyone is in a way or another. I just hope everyone to see the whole picture because life isn't limited to political or/and clan affiliation.
I came into this website thinking that Somalis from the entire Somali peninsula can live and co-exist next to each-other whilst holding hands and supporting one another but I was wrong it was just a wishful lovey dovey thinking, the reality is that we Somalis hate each-other. And the funny thing is people want unity in this state of hate. They hide behind unity but their real intention is to destroy Somaliland because they have other agenda but we are wrong to generalize people, there are some who truly want that unity to be back.
I have to say unity is beautiful without a doubt but when hearts and minds are not united then united Somalia can never work that's why we need to stay to be separate states to at least survive. I am extremely sad in the state Somalis are in. In the 21 century even our people in the west who suppose to be educated and know better are the worst ones and fueling the fire back home
What a destructive disease qabiil is. Issaq, darood, dir, hawiye—> you are all bloody the same fools.
We have missed our chance of becoming Great and powerful one Somalia because of our own lack of intelligence and stupidity. The only reason now we should stay separate states is in order to function since we are so backward. Ishh Somalis wallahi .. may ALLAH HELP US
Amal walaal, the blame for Somalia's failure and subsequent demise is not shared equally by all the tribes. It was the Southerners and especially the Darood tribe who were chiefly responsible for the disunity and enmity that was created among the Somali people. But Alxamdu Lillah, Somaliland is now achieving what it could not achieve in that God forsaken union we rushed into. Now our children are growing up in a free society and our people have regained the dignity they lost in the refugee camps. Somaliland is not Somalia and the two should not be confused. It is only a matter of time before the whole World realised that the failed state they hear about can only be found south of our border.
as much as i don't want to generalize people our darood brothers especially the ones who were the leaders of Somalia was inflicted with a whisper from shaytaan that says "beware of issaq clan, they might overpower you" and that led to an utter destruction and until now they still have that fear
Nevertheless the past is the past, and there is no doubt Somalis in general are suffering a disease called qabiil and please my Somali bothers/sisters wherever you are or qabil you belong to unless you get rid of that disease you won't go no where.
The only advice I could ever give to my land Somaliland is to uphold the peace, disregard qabiil, learn from past experience, learn from mistakes and criticizem, and secure and hold on tight to our borders. And to my brothers and sisters in Somalia WAKE UP your suffering is affecting all of us. I hope they could clean their hearts and move on
Amal feels sorry for all the somali people, so why the fuss? She and others are saying no for tribalism and you pointing finger to Darood. Don't try to insult our intelligence when you say Darood are behind the misery of somali people. General Aideed and his group killed in few years more somalis than the military regime did in 22 years, do you see me pointing finger to Hawiye? General Samatar (2nd man in the military regime) is going on trial in the states these days, he and many others aren't Darood. I'm not Darood but we (as somalis) need better understanding of what happened instead of playing the clan card. Explain to me what happened to Majerteen herdesmen in late 70s if Darood was the ruling in the country? Dictatorship legacy is behind the misery of somali people and more important the delicate structure of our society because after 20 years of regime collapse we aren't doing better, indeed we are much worse.
I agree Said Barre and his men were a few people and we should be careful not to generalize. It won't lead us any where. Having said that, WE ARE A LOST PEOPLES!
Dear brothers and sisters,
Fear Allah first and foremost, As it was reported in the Sahih Al Bukhari, the prophet said (or something along the line) no men is better than the other, only good practicing muslims are the best of people to Allah (SWT)
As muslim we should stay away from hate, tribalism and ignorance; as you can imagine these are the some of the reasons why Somali is in the situation they are at the moment.
I am from Djibouti, my ancestors were from Gabiley Somaliland, i have benn raised t respect all human beings even non muslims, so I dont understand why people using this site cannot treat each other with respect.
Brothers and Sister we should always remember that Allah will judge us depnding on our deeds we've done in our life, we would not be asked about our clan affiliation or how big and powerful our clans were.
If I hate a clan or any muslim group of people, then I am not practicing my religion correctly, so being muslim and hating your fellow brothers and sisters is unsilamic and ignorent.
Salam Aleykum
One thing is as Muslims we have greater responsibility towards others who aren't. Allah has given us a privilege which we must not abuse by calling his other children less worth or infidels just because we have been given this privilege by Allah. Secondly, those of us who respect the diin will also respect peoples right to property and ownership thus all those wanting to take credit for what others worked hard for are basically haraam seekers. The fact is or common sense shows Somaliland is in area which is known as semi desert which most Somalis did not want to invest in but for those who had no choice. They worked hard for the past 21 years against all odds yet they are facing those who want to claim their hard work only then to destroy it. Is that fair? If people who want Somalia whatever their clan worked hard together they would have had more then the Somalilanders but this is overlooked. In all eventuality I don't blame Somalilander for sticking to their respective area's as they can not be guaranteed fair treatment as history shows and presently despite giving to their neighbours they are still called Somali diids. I think those who run around making trouble for those who are doing good are the Somalidiids? There are groups who run around being negative whilst not doing anything constructive and these who should be condemned. Ask them what have you done for you're home and family? Show as the result of you're efforts and ideology.
Common sense doesn't need education as I can see who is trying and making effort and who is claiming others efforts? Simple logic shows clearly the truth. Give credit where it is deserved stop denying each other a right to you're own dignity. Stop blaming the west or ethiopia or who ever but instead start taking responsibility for you're own efforts whilst giving credit to those who have? No more lying or cheating or fake pride that has no base. Allah knows best.
Ameen. I'm glad people are starting to see the truth behind all this Somali unity rhetoric. If we as a people were honest with each other our country would have settled and united long ago. Unfortunately, however, many of us are nothing more than bible salesmen.
I have not personally seen a people like ours we openly fight against the truth and realities of life. Thousands of reconciliation conferences fail, because no one truly gives a damn. For these people it's all about how much Aid money they can hustle for their families or sub-tribes, and when someone doesn't get their share they sabotage the whole conference through their militias.
The OLD Somalia and dreams of Somaliweyne are DEAD!
Tannock and others who advocates for the clan line disintegration of others are nothing but a vehicle of neo-colonialist, else while uniting Europe why on hell he is formulating the disunity of the non European nations.
Somalia was destroyed by misuse of clan affiliations and we have seen the unfavorable outcomes but we learn nothing from our past mistakes. No tribe or clan can dominate another tribe or clan but we are denying that reality. The truth is let us correct our mistakes and recreate or renew our relationship. If we deny the existences of each other then we will destroy our future.
Last twenty plus year you were accusing Somali people the civil war you created and you we insulting them and calling them names. North Somalia belongs many different clans without respecting them you will go nowhere.
There no sensible somali who is jelous about progress being made in SOMALILAND, We somalis need to be vissionary people rather than reacting to events as they unfold.
There are scholars who beleives destruction, hate, war and all kind of evils to be an engine which bring social changes faster to pave way for the adoption of calture, values, religion etc by a given society. The core of their thinking is that a hungry person has no ather choice than to accept a new religion. In other way a hungry politician allows what so ever thing that takes to his desire. Let us be honest, can ordinary people trust our leaders andn poleticain-I think we don’t and layman somali can list the season why?
Our ancestor wer moking as crezy people on the white people when they were drowing borders, their problem was that they were not visionaries. Guys, our hate to each ather is a costless mass killer weapon used by our enemies who aspire to take our resources for their children and really that is not fair. I advice his excellency Dr. Hanock consider being friend with all Somalis as a moral as well as intelectual obligation.
Somalis who respect friendship more than any other country.
For the somalis let us try to tollerate each other, love each other, respect each other, this will nourish our future children, keep thier dignity higher and higher.
if your intention is to oppress other clans then prepare for long lasting war and anarchy. Otherwise give respect and equality to all clans of Northern Somalia. Guns are still smoking and not silenced yet.
Ibrahim you are right.
Caddaani waligaa dagaal ma gashay? I think not. Because you would talk about it if you know how bad it is. I shame on and any body who bring smell of guns and wars on public debte where intelectuals where matured people exchanges views and ideas.
And caddaani, fear god, make your points in acceptable way, uless otherwise just keep silent.
Haddaanan aabahay gablan has no place here. Raalina iga noqo saaxiib.
You people from western countries are the problem. Cadani, please tell us who is oppressing who. I live in Somaliland and see no oppress people. It is true Somalis live within their units even within Clan every sub clan has it is own territory. We have hard earned peace and we intend to come it that way come. In fact major of small shop owner are Southern Somalis.
As S/Lander I will defend the rights everyone in S/Lander regardless of clan or otherwise I will also pray for Somali and love them as brothers.
Forgiveness is what need is at present time
You right and keep thinking right for ever brother.
