The Managing Director of HASS Petroleum Mr. Omar Hassan Mohamed speaking to the media said he believed that his company was in a strong position to fill the void left by the Total.

From its humble beginnings as a as a fuel reseller , Hass Petroleum is now a renowned oil marketer with fully fledged operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its headquarters is in Nairobi.

Mr. Omar said that last year his company placed its tender bid with the national tender board in an effort to secure the rights to run the Berbera storage facility after fulfilling the guidelines and recommendation set by the governments and he hoped his company was in a strong position of securing the rights.
We began our operations in Somaliland In the early 2011 just after Total monopoly contract was revoked by the current government of president silanyo.
He also added that talks are currently ongoing with the ministry of commerce so as to establish guidelines that controls the quality of petroleum products been imported into the country.

HASS petroleum is among one of the three companies that are awaiting result of fuel supplier tender bid from the National Tender Board in an effort to fill the void left by Total.
The President of Somaliland H.E Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (Silanyo) revoked the total license to run the Berbera oil storage facility in 22nd May 2011, appointing several ministers in his cabinet to run and manage the day to day operations the fuel depot until a suitable company is rewarded the rights.
Minister of Commerce, Industries and Tourism Hon Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed announced that after considering recommendation by the committee tasked to run the facility.
We decide It was in the interest of the facility to be in the hands of the private sector hence the granting of permission for private investors to place their bids, said the minister.
To this date only three local companies have placed the bids with the national tender board.

Once the contract is awarded, there has to be an agreement that the company brings only his expertise and to recruit the rest of his staff from Somaliland, e.g. all the administrative staff because the local people have the right to employment, first and foremost. We have thundreds of graduates waiting to get into jobs to be created either by the government or foreign companies working in the country.
Yes indeed Gobaad. I noticed one draw back in recritment processes. That takes long time
to recruit the incumbent wouldbe job applicants unless nepotism is round the corner!.
In most cases ama buur ahaw ama buur ku tirsanow…Any available opening job created vacancies
should be filled in the shortest times. To get the right job for which someone is qualified, unnecessary
delays are common practices..may have to do with nepotism or other factors of bad management. Even
when jobs could be created in so many ways, the lack of expertise or bad management are common
factors in Somaliland ways of job recruitment and placement practices. That needs proper study.
Cheers.
Gobaad,
Despite the glamorous of politics and the snail paced traffic Hargeisa is the capital city of Somaliland and it’s a beautiful city. Well, ignore my previous advice and you may want start out your future company in Hargeisa, since you’re familiar with. Wish you a good luck..

mohamed cheers,
In order to eliminate nepotism/favoritism, how come the government or the private sectors are not looking to establishing a staffing agencies then if one brings a company to Somaliland, he/she would call them up and simply ask for the number of skilled works/administrative staff it needs.
The show is over!
Companies whether they domestic or foreign the owners would like to be the executives…so, I wouldn't worry about it that for now.

osman5, "…establishing a staffing agencies then if one brings a company to Somaliland, he/she would call them up and simply ask for the number of skilled works/administrative staff it needs."
This is a good idea. I am planning to go home this and if I like it I will stay. I am a Human Resource Major and may clean up all their employment mess for them, if they hire me. Or perhaps, I may establish a staffing agency as you indicated.
Gobaad,
That’s a good idea, I think you should start with a small to medium size staffing company in Burao, I wouldn’t advise you go to Hargeisa, the entire city is full of politics.
The folks in Somaliland, They can talk the talk but they can’t walk the talk.
If you’ve already got skill sets all you would need now is a drive, think about money and you can do with it. Give it a thought at least.
Osman Qaal
osman5, that is a good idea and I might give it thought, but I am from Hargeisa and that is where I want to be if I have to establish an emplopyment agency. When I go and I want to visit Somaliland coast to coast and familiarize myself with the country as whole. I only visited Hargeisa and its surroundings. Anyways, will see how it goes.
Great and i am 100% welcoming and effeciant private company to invest and rennovate the berbera depots, and also i agree the previous friends that the country's people should fill any vacant they can do
Sadly HASS Petroleum is unknown entity to most of Somalilanders. While I commend their accomplishment and desire for explanation and aim for a slice of Somaliland's Petroleum market. HASS owners are 100% support of SCC and Khatumo seeg. They don't believe in Somalilland Autonomy and I urge Somaliland's free press to commission investigative media to expose the hippocratic and selfish intrest of HASS and its owners
Samsam you are such a looser, What have you done for your country?
Dont blame successfull businessmen taking high risk on doing business in such a volatile place as Somaliland/Somalia.
Be happy your car can drive in hargeisa thanks to those who care for your fueling. By the way 100% of the staff are local people beat that!!
Alas,
Exposing your allies true colors make me looser!! Uuum. Typical wailer
Somaliland’s Petroleum capacity is small (8000 cubic meters), and there enough national companies need protection of their market value
Sansam you do business with Britain while they refuse to recognize you, yet you talk about this company that actually brings jobs to a desert area! You are a retarded imbecile Samsam!! SCC and Khaatumo are movements of the people from that area, and its the will of the people!! If anything you are hypocrite, because you want your people (Isaaq) will to be recognized yet you refuse to recognize others people will!! That's what I call hypocritism mate!!!!

I personally have nothing against them doing business in Somaliland, as we are an open country that aspires to do business with anyone who wishes to invest in Somaliland. However i am aqainst them managing the oil terminal in Berbera as this a national asset that should be managed first and foremost by the Somaliland government and if it should go in private hands it should be in connection with the privitisation of the whole Berbera Port.
This Hass enterprise are just Petroleum product traders that built some downstream businesses in the East africa, granted that they have built small oil storage terminal in Tanzania, but by in large they offer nothing except competition in supply of petroleum products that are already supplied by other Somaliland businesses.
Madar, if there are Somalilanders who can professionally manage the project, the government should grant it to its own people and keep the dollar in the community. Why bring outsiders if it can be done locally?
Hi Guys
I'm a long time reader and the first time blogger on in here.
I think having Hass Petroleum Group coming to Somaliland is not bad idea is just like Samsam pointed out they may not be what we think, however having said that i beleive we should welcome them to Somaliland and is down to the goverment to produce proper legislations to protect Somaliland intrest.
In term of recruitment, i think we as young Somaliland should take this chance and set up a recruitment agencies in Somaland. We need a group of young man/woman to come together and create this.
Lets come to gether on this
ps: you can message me on linkedin.com/abdelrazak mohamed if you like this idea
Ok
Assalam aleykum am ALI AHMED YASIN I have done biochemistry is it possible to get a job in hass petroleum
When we are in business, let`s not think about tribalism. It time for us to open minded and understand that all will not go sometimes the way our emotions dictate. It my belief that Hass Petroleum is a giant company that can`t be measured by tribal criteria’s. The company is well known in East and Central Africa, so we need to be proud to welcome them!
