There is a clear distinction between being nationalist and tribalism and while the majority of Somaliland people are happy to show the world how much they care about their independence, there are however, very few individuals from Somaliland who are in agreement with Somaliland’s enemies, because their tribal way of understanding things made them to believe that the pride of their particular clan is more important than the national interest and the social developments that Somaliland is crying out for today
And at a time of heightening tension between the loyal Somalilanders and the anti-Somaliland forces, it is every Somalilanders obligation to speak the truth even when the truth may upset those who we share tribal affiliations. Because in my humble opinion the national interest serves for all when at the same time tribalism does nothing for anyone including those who practice and preach tribalism day and night.
So for these reasons as a Somaliland citizen who was born and bred in Awdal region of Somaliland I believe it is time the silent majority in Awdal community to speak up and speak loudly in favor of Somaliland’s sovereignty which we have been part of it for the last two decades.
Today some Awdalites who support Somaliland cause in the past seem to be struggling with their conscious and they cannot bring themselves to support Siilaany’s government but that should not be the case and it should not prevent us to continue supporting Somaliland’s sovereignty.
We need to maintain the ability to separate between the Somaliland’s sovereignty and the current administration which will only remain in power for limited period of time.
There is no question that the majority of sensible Gadabuursi people are pro Somaliland at all cost, however there are young naïve men and women from Awdal who are always ready to declare their allegiance to their racist causes but that shall not deter the decent Awdalites to defend what is right for them and for the whole Somaliland nation before it is too late.
We all have moral obligation to defend our peace and the future of our children, and let us not forget that if we feel Siilaanyo is mishandling Somaliland’s affairs we have a choice to support his opponent within Somaliland’s political circle since we have different political parties, and we certainly do not need to seek help from elsewhere.
The clannish argument that very few anti-Somaliland individuals from Awdal use as weapon, which says “we are nothing and we got nothing in Somaliland” should meet the same level of argument and we should ask them, where on earth the Gadabuursi clan which they feel sorry for has more shares or more powers than we have in Somaliland .
Today we do not have any influences on anything that goes in Mogadishu’s TNG government, and God forbid if Somaliland loses its sovereignty the people from Awdal will be in the mercy of unknowing forces and that would be a disaster for Gadabursi people.
Finally we, the Gadabursis need the existence of Somaliland independence more than any other clan, because Dhulbahante can use Daroodism umbrella if things go wrong. Isaaqis also have more influence on Somalia’s affairs than we have. And geographically Mogadishu is a far away land for the boys and the girls from Awdal region. And the sooner we realize all these realities the sooner we stop feeling sorry for ourselves

As always, the Good, the bold, and the beautiful of the 1993 Borama Somaliland Conference,
and the peace, stability and democratic processes and progress that followed since upto
now, that Gadabursis natural high profile intectuality can be felt through this wonderful Awdalite noble
character who shares his deep convictions with his fellowmen.Needless to say, the Awdal Province
is vocal big State to the rest of Somaliland and hopefully that reputation will never falter to betray
the good causes of tne united we stand Somaliland and divided we fall. Bless you Awdalites.
Cheers.
That's a true story, when I went awdal region in Somaliland the people was hundred percent with Somaliland. I dont know why such a few disapora people think they can screw up things after twenty one years thats wierd but I guess hate can spread quicker than love.
Tribal federal states is barbaric how will anything be accomplish when your using tribal methods for power only leads to war.
Somalia is becoming a federal government and each state including Awdal will gert its own share so don't scare these people, they want to be part of a federal government recognized by the world, 20 yrs have gone by and no recognition for Somaliland.
You are in dreamlands Ahmed this is not the United States of America….So don't ever expect the west (e.g.London Conference) to fix Somalia's problems they just can't! The London conference is nothing more than to protect western interest from Piracy & Al-shabaab & unless you help yourself like Somaliland did, you still be where you're today 20 years from now.
Delete this article right away, we are all somalilanders — stop refering to citizens of our coutry by tribe. Its 2012 and you guys publish an article with with such an heading.
Even though i agree with what the articles say i defo agree it shouldnt be here, your absolutley right
What a brave man. This article should be copied to those Awdalite, who are on the bubble and confused. It's true, some few Awdal Diasporas, who were very pro-Somaliland when Riyale was Somaliland president, were now seems to change their allegiance to this anti-Somaliland elements calling itself Awdal State, what a shame!
I have always disagreed with Mr. Sigad politically, but we see eye in eye on Somaliland nationalism. One can oppose the ruling party without compromising the national interest and that is what Mr. Sigad is just doing. I'm a strong supporter of Silaanyo administration and that doesn't mean I wouldn't vote against him not serving the national interest. As Mr. Sigad stated some people have difficulty making distinction between our National existence and party affiliations.
However, I have one disagreement with Segad, Awdal has not only been a part of Somaliland for only the last two decades, but awdal and Awdalites were part and parcel of Somaliland since the beginning of history.
Correction:
I'm a strong supporter of Silaanyo administration and that doesn't mean I wouldn't vote against him if I think that he is not serving the national interest.
its samaroon NOT gudabuursi and we have our own state AWDAL STATE guys call us when you found the recognition you dream of !!!
what a brave what a man. Wonderful article he who understands should. Other wise u jotted well done point black. Thanks
SomalilandPress is really loosing credebility with healines like this SMH! SomalilandPress should delete this article right away.
The truth has spoken by itself and people whom so-called somaliland are united only for the sake of tribalism . This article is a justification of their Qabilism toward other clans who resides Awdal state & khatumo state . Somaliland will not Achieve thier phony independence from greater somalia , and they are only creating more hatred toward their somali bothers , namely Khaatumo state & Awdal state .
Samaliboy the article you just read is wretten by an Awdalite from Awdal and that shows how united we are, so get real bro
Hibo whoever wrote this article is not representing the people of Awdal State.
This is a moving article from a young man who Allah gave him a vision and clean mind. I believe our people Samaroon/Gadabuursi are real Somalilanders except few who do not live our land, and another few at home who somehow did not look things positively. I congratulate this Gentleman who came out in force and said, explained what is at stack for all of us. People of Somaliland are one, and will Insha Allaah be forever. I thank for Mr.A.F. Sigad, a brave person who show his chest to the few who might blame him unrealistically about the truth, vision and wisdom Allah gave him. Thank you very much Mr.Sigad, and God, the Almighty bless you.
People who hate Somaliland want to drag gadabursis/samaroon with them because they know gadabursi/samaroon are one of the important pillers and back bone of Somaliland's peace and unity. They need to get a life and stop talking on behalf of peace loving noble awdalites. And for hargaysa and Borama to be very close to eachother is another blessing. we are one and we have one common interest, no way should we get lost in abaayo/abowe world again
Good article except the title because it should instead say 'Gadabursis need Somaliland as much as Somaliland needs them' because Gadabursi is one of the PILLARS Somaliland stands on. Awdal is the birth place of Somaliland and we were together since ancient times, to adel/iffat times, to colonial times, to bad union times to NOW and I agree with Mustafe every region is better off with Somaliland and please change the title. Our strength is in our unity and Hargaysa and Borama are next door to each-other
God bless Gadabursis and all Somaliland citizens.
Amal, Unless people are pretending to be blind, they must have seen the support and the unity of Somalilanders from coast to coast. And the real Somalilanders are not the few dissents who has nothing useful going for them abroad. They normally spend their time at coffee shops discussing qabiil and politics they know nothing about and don't even have time for the up-bring of their children. Most of them are Taxi-drivers or idle and welfare bums who never work or earn a decent living.
I have seen the so-called Awdal state president on HCTV and he doesn't look healthy both mentally and physically. May Allah have mercy on him.
abdi123 ur not healthy and ur da sick wit one n ders no cure for ur sickness die in ur sepration dream u will never be a country .
Are you one of those minor reer Nuur who are upset about Jibril Abokor? If J.A. are whooping your rare side, its not Somaliland's fault, man-up and stop crying. Somaliland doesnt need to get involved JA is enough to do the job.
I do not like the title of the article but thats from a Gadabursi to his Gadabursis. Personally, I feel Samaroon are part of the nation and will remain that way. Its funny some are declaring their anti-Somalilandism when Riyale lost the democratic vote. This shows they do not have respect for themselves nor for democracy where people express their choice by voting. So if Awdal State was to come to being does that mean every time their governor loses the vote, they will go more mini-states?
The few angry ones are combination of few things; fear, dispute with Gabiley people and the ouster of Riyale. All three reasons are pathetic. First of all Sland supporters are far more than you thus making them angry is not a good choice because then they will arm Gabiley extremists rather than bring them to justice like now they are searching for the nine men.
No Somalia is going to rescue, they cant even rescue Las Anod which is next door to them…Daroos are locked down and as H-wiye, they prefer working with Isaa.c community than minority Samaroon because in the end Ha-wiye is interested who can help them counter with Daroos and definitely its no few reer Samaroon, last time you did nothing and now nothing. So dont pray for war relax.
CHANGE THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE!
Even though this is a poorly written and highly offensive article SomalilandPress didn’t hesitate to post it. No surprises here.
to the writer. if Somaliland doesn’t need Awdal as you stated, then what is the big fuss? Everyone should go their separate ways. Why is violence needed to keep things together?
I absolutely agree with Hanna. This is one of the worst, most disgusting and sickening articles I have ever read. Don't they QC and Publishing Approval Process followed as a standard. Please, think before you write!
There is no such thing as Somaliland, there is only Somalia. Truth hurts
