Are these scholarships covering all the W/g & W/B SL Regions or only limited to Hargeisa???
It's urged that the best students from all the SL Regions should get these scholarships.
What about other Scholarships from the GCC???. Earlier official trips to the UAE, a deal of
Scolarships for the SL students was struck in addition to other matters.

All of Somaliland's secondary school students will be allowed to participate in this opportunity. This current administration has made tremendous strides in terms of equality amongst the various citizens of Somaliland. In Las Anod, many mothers are now happy their children are receiving free education up to university.

Who knows if Somaliland becomes a wealthy state in the future perhaps we will go the way of Finland and France with a completely free schooling systems A-Z. All that is required in these above mentioned countries is the will to learn and one can become anything. i.e. Doctor, Engineer etc.

    Somalilandpress,

You have deleted my comment, but I will sum up my comment and say these scholarship thing is pure injustice to young kids who worked hard and hail from regions outside Hargeysa and Awdal.

Delete this too if you want but in justice is injustice and there is God to judge everyone!

Perhaps you should approach the Ministry of education or speak to your regional education ministry to get further clarification on where these Scholarship tests will be held. I do agree with you 300 secondary students writing from ALL of Somaliland seems a little strange. Surely, Somaliland has more secondary students than 300; however, we shouldn't jump to any conclusions quickly.

What is the criteria for selecting WHO gets to write this test? Is it the top 300 graduating from all the regions in which case ANY one region can take all the seats if they happen to have the brightest students at that point in time. Or is it a selection based on regional quotas. i.e. 20 from Awdal, 10 from Sanaag, 15 from sool etc.

Let me know what you find brother? If there is corruption going on then I am on your side and someone should be fired! Ceerigabo should at least be allowed to have 100 seats loooool joking!

      @ALI

thank you for your daring critics. Somaliland is still struggling to free itself from the injustices
of tribal feuds however if the best plan A is not possible the alternative is plan B. Like the rest of
Somalis, Somaliland has yet a long way to go before Mudane Warya assumptions/assertions
reach every home and child. The SL systems are in constant struggles to free itself from
what the Ignorance of tribal feuds could do in damaging all that could be well intentioned goodness
God's ways. Samsam the Minister of Education could be criticised just like the other Ministers
who are 24/7 under constant criticism like Hersi or the Aviation Min.ETC. Please be free to speak out.

Somalilandpress did not like my first comment and it was unfairly deleted. I would love to be corrected if I am wrong, but somalilandpss should respect the views of different people and specially those who love their country and come up with constructive criticisms. Here are some points to ponder about regarding the scholarships.
1.The exam results were not fair, because the majority of he students who were at top of the list were from specific schools in Hargeisa, from specific regions of Hargeisa and coincidently Samsam (the minister of education) is from that same part of Hargeisa city.
    2.
3.The top- list schools are owned privately by people close to samsam & her group; the Governor of Hargeisa and the minister of posts and communication. Is this another simple coincidence? You tell me.
4.The students from remote regions were not given enough time to travel to Hargeisa. The exam was announced on Tuesday and was held on the following Wednesday morning. That is to say even if those kids travelled on Tuesday night, they were still doomed to failure, and contrary to the local Hargeisa kids these kids from remote areas would’ve been too tired to sit the exam. Was this a bad planning? I do not think so.
    5.
6.It was reported by the Somaliland media, that minister of posts and communications, forced his son to sit the exam although he was not at the top list and was not eligible to sit the exam.
    7.
8.The students that were sitting for the exam were not fairly distributed and by far the majority went to Hargeia and Awdal.

If this is ALL TRUE then I am with you brother ALI 100%.

      - The Minister of post and communication – Should be FIRED!
      - The Minister of Education – Should be FIRED!
      - The Governor of Hargeisa – should be brought before the court with Media present and FIRED to make an example

The person who planned the test for Wednesday after making a Tuesday announcement should definitely be fired for SIMPLY being too stupid for the job…honestly 1 day notice for students as far as Las Anod. What did these kids all of a sudden become rich and magically purchase private jets. nonsense!

This is unacceptable and if left alone could destroy Somaliland's unity from the inside. And since no one wants this to happen these corrupt officials must be severely punished.

I would just like to add that by firing these individuals we are doing ourselves and Somaliland a favour. The next person who starts day dreaming of the day he/she will be a minister in the SL government they will will remember how many corrupt officials were fired and think twice before running for public office.

Somaliland public offices should only be held by honourable, decent and justice individuals. If we let this go then I am afraid we would be taking steps towards a more Mogadishu style government! And honestly, what would be the point in RECOGNITION if were merely going to repeat the same old crap as the old union days…right!

The poor students are expected to learn in foreign languages such as Turkish. There should be better ways of using the childrens potential than sending them off to a foreign land with no laws of justice and equity where their African identity could hamper their development in places such as Turkey and Arab countries.

I was made to believe that our government and especially had a role in bringing scholarships to our young kids from brotherly nations, but was very disappointed when I found out that same number of scholarships were granted to Puntland and also Gulmudug. Well Samsam can clam now that is the minister of Puntland and Gulmudug, but she has to stop this madness of unjust treatment of Somaliland teenagers.

Daud, the head of the exam commission said: "especial quotes for different regions must come to an end for the sack of fairness". I will say to brother Daud, this will not happen unless people like you and Samsam leave the Ministry of education, because you manged to rob scholarships from high achievers to your fellow clan kids.

Is it important to know which part of the city the school is located?

Are students at private schools always members of the same clan/tribe ?

Is Daud involved in this alleged tribalism/clannism at the M.O.E. I mean to say is he a member of the alleged axis of evil?

I was just about to write another question in defence of the trio but I overcame my urge to show my tribalistic instincts, its difficult you know overcoming that urge, being a Somali Male and all that comes with it.

According to the media only 34 Somaliland students were granted scholarships to Turkey meanwhile there are reports that Puntland recieved 118 scholarships to Turkey, and that Sh.Sharif had bid farewell to a total of 309 Somali students in Mogadishu all headed to Turkey?

Can someone confirm this please? Why is Somaliland being allocated seats 1/10th that of Somalia!
Another rumour circulating is that our students didn't go directly to Turkey but went first to Mogadishu. What happened to the claim by Minister Zamzam that Somaliland was given over 250 scholarship seats?

Something really fishy is going on!

I know brother Yusuf that this is a serious matter, but brother in Sland it doesnt matter where you go, whether travelling on a bus, drinking tea in a cafe, shopping in the market or even at the mosque I hear everyday of tribal bias at every level of government, this administration as well as the former Riyaale Administration.

So now I am almost immune to such allegations after finding out in the past that most allegations either cannot be wholly proven, or the exact opposite in which tribalism/clannism is not even hidden, but is in fact condoned under the banner “Somaliland Markayga”

Sad but true. Inshallah Allah will guide us to rid us of this all but too common disease which has put back our beloved Somaliland for the last 20 years.

I hope they offer my cousin a scholarship. He is currently studying in Hargeisa University and has only 8 months to go.

He wants to do his masters abroad and if Somaliland (non-existent) government doesnt include him to Turkey, we will have to pay for it.

Education is huge in Somaliland, almost every kid goes to school. There are schools and private colleges on almost every corner.

The ones I have seen include University of Hargeisa, Somaliland Technology University, Abaarso Tech, Edna Adan University, Admas University, Future University College, Horn University, Alpha University, Golis University and many others.

Other privates I have seen include Noradin schools, Calami, Salaama and many other ones with weird names from Arabia to Asia…

Education is big business in Somaliland, it generates the highest gross income. Some teachers (privates) are on $2500 income per month where ordinary people make as little as $200.
