HARGEISA — Former Somaliland’s Civil Aviation minister is scheduled to hold talks with officials from South Sudan government ahead of their official independence from Khartoum.
Mr. Ali Mohamed ‘Waran Adde” who served under President Riyale has been travelling by road using his vehicle and Somaliland license plates to cross Somaliland-Ethiopia border and Ethiopia-South Sudan border for the past month.
He told local radio stations by telephone that he encountered a lot of new and exciting things during his journey to southern Sudan. He said it was an eye opener for him.
He added he is expected to discuss general issues related to bilateral ties, like economic and trade cooperation with the South Sudanese government.
The government of Somaliland has not yet sent an official delegation from the ruling party but it has welcomed the south’s independence vote.
Somaliland believes it could use the south’s independence as a precedent as it seeks more support for its case for international recognition. Some foreign observers and politicians believe the Juba government will recognize Somaliland which will pave the way for other regional powers to follow.
As a part of a 2005 North-South peace deal, the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the people of South Sudan went to the polling stations to vote for secession from the North in January.
Nearly 99 percent of southerners voted to form Africa’s newest 54th state. The results have been endorsed by foreign observers, UN, Arab League and North Sudan. South Sudan is expected to be inaugurated as the world’s newest nation on 9th of July.
Between now and then, the territories will have to agree on issues such as debts, citizenship, national assets and border demarcation.

First of all, I wish to thank the former Minister for serving the nation during his time in office. He did very well but I feel some of the things he did and was planning to do, came bit too late. But he has to be the most proactive minister Pres. Rayale had.
Enjoy your trip in South Sudan Mr Mohamed and we welcome South Sudan's freedom and dignity. Those Arabs were sub-human and treated the people inhuman and as result damaged Muslim reputation because Muslims do not enslave people, Islam freed slaves always such as Bilal.
Welcome South Sudan!!!!!!!
South Sudan needs a port to export its vast oil resources in the future. Maybe Somaliland can get South Sudan to use the port of Berbera its a lot closer than Congo, which they are considering of using it at the moment along with Lamu in Kenya.
Berbera is going to connect Addis Ababa, once that network is done, Addis is not far from Juba. Its just matter of doing it in two stages, this will also get strong support from Ethiopia which played crucial role in the independence of South Sudan.
Ethiopia would also get some income from the pipeline if it runs through its own country rather than go to Congo or Kenya. So Somaliland should team up with Ethiopia to convince the south Sudan to use Berbera.
Good thinking. Waarya se maynagga hubtaa cawankan qaaqaawan suud sudankooda mooyane!
buunbuunitan suud Sudan haday Somaliland ka waantoobi waydoh iyadunba ka shaykayn.
S/land waiting for and seeking recognition from South Sudan Independence is ridiculous and down
grading disgrace. Why South Sudan with unfinished business issues such as debts, citizenship, national assets, border demarcations and many other unresolved problems before the set date 9 July 2011.
Surely the Somaliland mentality in this regard is taking the wrong direction. It's also quite possible
that Sudan being an Arab League Country and Omer AL-Bashir is a wanton criminal for genocide by
the ICC. the fever of Intifada(Uprisings) could erupt at any moment.
Cheers.
Like our former country men from the south would say: "cunsiiri ha noqon nooh"…South Sudan has a lot of resources and capital. They have absolutely zero and its the place all the foreign firms and african businesses are rushing to. It was partly the reason they (corporates) supported the south seccessionism. If Somaliland had big oil like South Sudan, it would be recognized long time ago.
Somaliland businesses can do business in South Sudan such as Dahabshiil, there is huge Southern Sudanese diaspora community sending millions. This is the sort of contact Somaliland needs to make. Dahabshiil and other Somaliland businesses should open offices in Juba and support the South Sudan government.
dadkaa qawan aya inoo dhamaa Somalia.
That is true bro, I like your positive thinking & how those country come together to develop their economic tie I very much sure that somalialand will benefit if they have a good labbys to make south sudan & Ethiopia to use berbera.. that way they can generat profit
So finally Mr. Waran-cade brings recognition we waiting for 20 years by driven his own car from Hargisa to Juba town then when he returned home Somaliland is already recognized. Mr. Waran Cade was representing himself as a Somali citizen. This man was hard-working individual when he was a minister I have to admit it. Don't sale your own business opportunity and let your Berbera Port to Ethopia for free. You may regetted by letting your resources to your hungry neighbors for false contracts that will never have to end, 50 years for free service in exchage to recognition and support from your western neighbors is what we heard. I'm so suprise how far would people go to get recognition that no one know if possible to happen it would even less.
How come Ethopia who uses Berbera ports since the 90s didn't recognized Somaliland and never will? because your neighbor is just using you and wouldn't let you go. Keep them in the dark and use them idea is what you facing today and years to come unless you side with your own Somali people. Don't you see Ethopia today contralls all Somali politics and it wants to keep it that way untill all Somalia people gone from the face of the earth as it wishes.
At least Mr Waran Adde has the courage and will to drive 40 days across two of Africa's largest countries while you sit behind that computer day and night and just whine 24/7. At least real Somalilanders are doing things while the rest of the Somalis sit about and let things disappear in front of them.
Even if it means going to the moon, the Somaliland cause will not stop nor be dettered by little negative minds.
Our people are driving from England to Hargeisa, Hargeisa to Juba, climbing mount Evaras, while the rest of Somalis sit behind computers and whine and cry after Somaliland.
Ethiopia is not allowed to recognize Somaliland if you know something about basic laws. Somaliland recognition can not be from Ethiopia or Kenya, for the simple reason that they both neighbor Somalia and have their own interest in the region.
So Ethiopia and Somaliland will now have to use South Sudan case. If South Sudan breaks the news, Addis Ababa will be the first to follow. Just for legal reason it cant be the first but it is doing every thing for Somaliland. Its giving Somaliland access to all the foreign contacts through its foreign embassies and organizations.
Okay Jale you can take yoour Somaliland to South Sudan but my Somaliland's political
interests are in different directions. It's your word against mine. Will see who wins and who
loses. Let's move on and give the space to others.
Cheers.

Good Relationship: somaliland should start a good ties with sourthern society to intensify its effort to win a recognition. this can be a sign that somaliland could possibly send to the interational community.
