Ethiopian takes Boeing 787 Dreamliner home

SEATTLE — Yesterday, Ethiopian Airlines took delivery of their first Boeing 787 Dreamliner at Paine Field in Everett, WA. The aircraft is named “Africa First.”

“Today begins the first day in a new era of flying for our passengers and brings us even closer to our vision for the future, Vision 2025,” said Tewolde GebreMariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines. “We are pleased to be the first airline in the world outside Japan to receive this technologically advanced aircraft. We have been waiting for this airplane and now that we officially have it and will show it to the world, I can say with pride, it was worth the wait. This airplane is going to move Ethiopian Airlines to the forefront of aviation leadership around the globe.”

The aircraft landed in Washington DC and will continue heading west to Bole Addis Ababa International Airport (ADD) in Ethiopia tomorrow.

“Today marks not just another milestone for Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines, but a new beginning in our 65-year partnership,” said Van Rex Gallard, vice president of Sales for Africa, Latin America, & Caribbean, Boeing Commercial Airplanes during the delivery ceremony. “Ethiopian Airlines continues to show their strong leadership in African aviation and their growing presence around the globe. Being the first in Africa and one of the first in the world further confirms their position globally.”

Ethiopian is the first non-Japanese airline to take delivery of the Dreamliner and they have nine additional 787s on order. The airline will begin daily flights between DC and Addis Ababa using the 787 on October 20th, a route that is currently operated by a Boeing 777-200LR.

Ethiopians 787 is laid out with 24 seats in Cloud Nine and 246 seats in economy.

When will AIDS Ababa ever learn from past mistakes? 90% of their people's primary mode of transportation is a carriage pulled by a donkey. Jealousy is not good for your health; you better be prepared many surprising and good things will come from Ethiopia in near future. In case you forget, Ethiopia is providing you more than 70 % of your garrison district economy. We are feeding you and your cousins and relatives life depend on us. Better cooperate with Ethiopia and behave accordingly. Soon, Somaliland will build its Berbera port, Lamu will be opened, we will reclaim back our Assab port – and guess what we will empower Afar – to establish a very strong region – in that case they will overtake you and you will be finished. This is an excellent news for African travellers and the African continent. Please understand. I am not a fan of Meles and the dictatorship in Ethiopia who keep sending forces to kidnap Somalis into the Somali State and Somaliland region as well as southern Somalia. But, we can't forever fly with dangerous scrap metals like Daallo.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a dream for many and Ethiopian is living that dream right now.

But its good news for all Africans, now you can fly in comfort no more taking boats to Spain and Italy or Arabia.

Djibouti's national carrier is now Daallo, the two countries are very different just like their two airliners. Djibouti is slightly advanced than the bankrupt separatist-Tribal Council occupying Morgan's house.

  My paternal uncle and his wife keep raiding the Central Bank – hence no airline. One thing is for sure, I will never take Ethiopian Airlines as long as Somalis, and Muslims for that matter, are being persecuted in Ethiopia. I have other options, but do understand that there are not too many viable and safe options flying to Hargeisa. Oh, lest I forget, try the "African sushi" when you take this airline. LOL.
