PUNTA UMBRIA — During the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, Spain, Eritrean athlete Samuel Tsegay, and his Ethiopian counterpart Abera Kuma, were involved in a fight during the final hundred meters of the race.

According to Spanish news agencies, Tsegay and Kuma first started displaying aggressive behavior towards one another around 11,900 meters of the race. The tipping point that ignited the brawl didn’t start till the final home stretch, when Kuma of Ethiopia deliberately started elbowing Tsegay and stepping on his shoes from behind, in order to prevent the Eritrean from sprinting to his full capacity. It was at this point when both competitors tripped and fell to the ground, and a infuriated Tesgay rising up to grab Kuma by his right leg and deliver blows to his adversary.

Although both competitors crossed the finish line, they were nevertheless disqualified. This incident has quickly gained notoriety throughout Europe and has prompted an investigation from IAAF officials.

Habeshas are far better than Somalis of Somalia any day. You sick people go look at your own country.

Going back to the event here, we can tell it was the Ethiopian's fault and he got some good beating but he came back to win.

There are hundreds of thousands Somali and Eritrean refugees living in Ethiopia, raising children and running successful business.

You need to ask yourself why is everyone coming to Ethiopia, even though an Ethiopian is not safe in Eritrea or Somalia?

     Reply
    • Kayse says:

Ethiopian refugees are also in Somalia and Somaliland in the hundreds of thousands. They are all fleeing atrocities. Come to Hargeisa and it for your self, go to Bosaaso, etc.

Eritreans are self sufficient but Ethiopians are aid dependent, Somalis of Somalia only know fighting each others and Somalis of Somaliland are not recognized. No one is better than no one lets be releastic. Ethiopia has had 20 year of peace while Somalia has been fighting yet there are many fields Somalia is doing far better than Ethiopia, one been telecommunication, money transfer….etc.

Ethiopian airline is also the best in Africa and its also true Ethiopia has the most homeless people in East Africa.

look at you guys…as small incident as this one, has gotten you arguing about who is better and who is not……This is not how we African supposed to be thinking about….

It doesn't matter whether you are Ethiopian, Eritrean, or Somali….we have to admit that what these two guys did was absolutly wrong. they are runners…they are only supposed to run, not wrestle….

we all need to reflect back to our own community and condemn the improper and the wicked, that way we will build afoundation to live in harmoney with our fellow African and also kill the conscious and unconscious division put up on the mindset. I will leave you with a qoute from Bro. Malcolm X

"One day, may we all meet together in the light of understanding."

Its shameful that they fighting in a different country infront of white people this is crazy, This guys are africans and black i don't care whether they from Ethiopia or Eritrea in the eyes of the whites people this folks are black. We don't need to charge and jump into conclusion and plus lets not bring Somali bc it has nothing to do with whats happened here. I personally wish they respected one another and don't bring hate to this sports event.

I appreciated your comment that it’s shameful to act in front of the whites like this. Yes they will not have sympathy for the wrong character displayed, rather they will start to calculate how they can benefit out of our own stupidity, that is smart of them. Its our own problem, that lead us to knell down for support or their jury.
I appreciated your point its shame to be looked at by the whites, I don't think viewers will sympathies on the act these guys. Rather will laugh as usual ….at us all. nice point.

Let all be smart and get out of our poverty, and show that how important we are to the world like our Asian friends does. We are all Africans and we need to fight our common enemy poverty!

Let all declare that its Time For Africa!
