ASMARA — President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea says the country’s mining activities have a major comparative advantage over their rivals, in terms of both time and significance, as they provide impetus to national economic development programmes and their sustainability.
Stating this in an interview here with the national media, he said that Eritrea was endowed with rich mineral resources, but he highlighted the fact that economic wealth does not mean possession of that wealth alone. As experience in other countries had demonstrated, one should exercise proper handling, and thus refrain from pronouncements of undue hopes, as doing so might lead to negative consequences, he added.
In this regard, President Isaias noted that such wealth needs to be judiciously exploited in the interest of present and future generations. He further underlined that the substantial investment the Government was making towards ensuring sustainable development in all sectors was aimed at achieving this objective.
President Isaias outlined the country’s development programmes aimed at ensuring proper distribution of electricity supply, expansion of alternative sources of energy, as well as an increase in the capacity of power stations.
He also indicated that the development of ports and docks ‒ especially the Massawa and Asab ports ‒ is among the government’s major programmes, and that steps had already been taken jointly with a Chinese company to accomplish the task.
The president revealed that besides the development and expansion of docks, there was a scheme to develop the infrastructure and service provision of Asmara and Massawa airports, as well as the construction and upgrading of secondary airports.

I must say that building looks new and aesthetically pleasing to the eye and this is coming from a Jabuutawi. However, this dinosaur who runs Eritrea has alienated all his neighbors and his people. How the heck is he going to develop and fully utilize the ports in Massawa and Asab if he continues shooting himself in the foot? Does he plan on exporting rocks or dirt to the rest of the world if he starts wars, more aptly skirmishes, with his neighbors, and believes trade won't be adversely affected? I am glad Djibouti has taken full advantage of his mishaps and we look forward not only offering Ethio. the gateway to global commerce but also supplying South Sudan a conduit to their Import/Export business.
it's not worried about ethiopia, south sudan or djibouti trading or ports there not much money there Eritrea would not have any effect on this matter cause we are more looking at the cargo traffic that goes by there to other countrys with much more traffic a and money like China,India,Brazil, euro and others that have in impact and im sorry to say but that's not ethiopia or djibouti. Eritrea president does not alienate the people of Eritrea who told u that ?
u have to now the fact first before u can say such things or see it with ur own eyes if your country had no help and just interference from your neighbors and other country's like gabon or nigeria that have no idea about Eritrea and the us u could not accomplish what Eritrea has done lit alone feed your self were not asking for help or anything like that all were asking for is to be left alone so that we could focus on our beloved eritrea. trust us if the us didn't interference like they have since 1946 would have finish ethiopia once and for all and turned it backed to Abbsina and give back the other land back to the Oroma people and other eithic groups that wanted to seperate from ethiopia. but they always run to the superpowers of the world when it comes down to it. with out the back up of the superpowers ethiopia would be ethiopia today. so i would thank ethiopia should now not to back Eritrea in to a corner third time cause it maybe the last time for ethiopia.
hello good friend i wish Eritrea to knock out Ethiopia to 2 front teeth the sooner the better.
Good on you mr bobcat, your right about What are writing,They keep saying Eritrean president he is dictator how The ethiopian one no one mension it.This
is The world we are living in double faces, eritrean They have colonized by The Turkesh, italy, Than 30 years by Termites ethiopians,They fought hard for
Their independent.if There is war between The termites ethiopains & Eritrea i will support eritrea 100%.
My advice to The eritrean goverment is Do not isolate your self’s,greader somalia, eritrea will penefit.
wow what a comment, just for the recrord my friend, eritrean president did not just alienate himself from the international community but from his own ppl too,
in case u are not aware bro, the dictator have never been to any other cities in eritrea besides asmara
and his favorate hiding place massawa, even on these two cities he can never walk alone by himself like before, but guarded with whole lot of his body guards bro.
just to come to the main topic my brother, i do not have any idea why on earth would any eritrean in diaspora especially those living in the west would ever support him,
i just want to know a single reason besides the normal personal advantage at the expence of the whole eritrean population, just one legidimate reason bro.
he is the one who does not even remember what he said yesterday and contradicts it today, my freind
to me the guy is retarded if u can help him out plz do if not we r all heading for doom
That building in the picture looks nice, wow Eritrea must be beautiful. SomalilandPress, maybe you should change your name to HornofAfricaPress :)
eritrean doesn't even exists, it's just one of those annoying country that has personality disorder.
somalia needs to give her support to ours bro ethiopians to get her rightful access to Assab port.
Whats surprises me is that Ethiopians always focus on Isaias and not their own leader . As much as I dont agree with Isaias he's our problem not you. Tend to you own problems . If you think that 50% inflation, massive debt , over 65 million starving Ethiopians dying of drought, high corruption, and selling your land to foreigners for peanuts , than I hope that ethiopian economic plans works our for ya.having an intellectual conversation with an ethiopian is useless all they talk about is Eritrea , isias , assab, and always forget who put their leader there.
What a nonsense, support The termites ethiopian are you out of your mind.
Kobie
Why dont you rescue the thousands of Eritrean hostages in the Sanai desert whose internal organs are being harvested for rich fat Arabs and Israelis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xa2ZZLsyaew&fe…
My hearts goes out to them , Because they are eritreans and as eritrean there issues are our problems. I dont like are ethiopians who cant feed themselves ,but want to critisize others. I know that eritrea has its problems buts that for us to deal with not for some ethiopians who rely on world vision to lecture us on
there are also ethiopia that are geting there organs takeing so i would't talk about that there are lot more ethiopians leaving there country then Eritrean. so ya i would suggest u worry about your own issues and to all the Eritreans if not Esayas as our president then who. can any one tell me someone that would be a better leader especially with all the issues we have with ethiopia. name me one better person who we could trust with secruity, food, health, eduction, corrupitons and our future please name one person so for that reason i would reather have Esayas as our president than someone that i have no idea about weather they can lead or not or how corrupt they would be at least Esayas is making small progress with all the obsticles that eritrea has its only 20 years old and were still under war with ethiopia so i would trust the president then what ethiopians are saying about us when they have no idea about there country and there president.
