DUBAI — Djibouti has been ranked the Arab world’s most expensive city for expatriates, according to a new survey by global consultant Mercer.
Declining property prices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai pushed both cities down on Mercer’s Worldwide Cost of Living Survey 2012, ranking third and fourth in the Arab world and 76th and 81 among 124 cities.
“On the whole, most Middle Eastern cities have dropped in the ranking, mainly because price increases on goods and services have been more moderate here than in our benchmark city, New York,” Nathalie Constantin-Métral, principal at Mercer, said in a statement.
“Slight decreases in expatriate accommodation costs were also observed in Abu Dhabi and Dubai,” she added.
The annual survey, based on a basket of everyday items including the price of a cup of coffee, one litre of petrol and the cost to rent a two-bedroom apartment, ranked Beirut third most expensive city in the Arab League and 67 globally.
Tokyo was awarded the top spot as the world’s most expensive city followed by Luanda in Angola, Osaka, Moscow and Geneva. At the other end of the list, Karachi remained the cheapest for the second year running, behind Islamabad (123) and Managua (122).

I bet Hargeisa is second, when are they going to finish re-building Mogadishu? it has been exactly 20 years when i had to flee my birth city, i guess i can wait for few more years. I'm sorry guys but this has nothing to do with politics, i mean Sii laanyo's government won't feed my family, will they? i'll take miss amal with me, i got boqol halaad for her that will probably (along with my charm) change her allegiance.
Alla! Waar bal ha e ceebayn o boqolkaga halaad Iska hayso Somalilandnimada waan u dashay ee. Besides if you are not gonna join us to build our homeland or at least your ancestral homeland than you are free to take a hike in Mogadishu's beach along with your buddy Kayse and we'll just call you Somaliland's lost children lol
P.s I thought you used to support Somaliland, what happened with the change of sides. In this difficult time we will stick together build our country and feed our people and put our trust with Allah. Traitors can pack up their bags and go
I thought you like me, is there someone else in your life?:p now seriously, all in all regarding Somaliland is that i simply don't trust the whole system and that's it, it hasn't necessarily to do with Somaliland itself and i believe majority of people agree with me.
isse,
lool like you? you wish, I mean you just ruined it for your self dee you should have instead said Hargeisa, borama, buraha shiekh, daalo iyo Somaliland dacaladeda iyo dulki hooyo ayyan ku dalxiis gaynaya lol but what you instead ran to Mogadishu and wish to kidnap me and walibana to change my identity to walawayn lol just joking The thing with Mogadishu is, it's really beautiful mashallah but it's the type of city that puts all eggs in one basket and we know what happened due to that.
Somaliland is not perfect, I have to say we got tribalism issue here and not very good economy system but we need to better our government including the justice system. InshAllah hope success for Somaliland though :)
The Pirate boy in a defferent shirt. Hey, I can recognize your ugly writing anywhere. Boqolkaga halaad ee aanad haysan iyo kaluukaaga maalixa ah Iska hayso.. As I remember she already shooed you off. Faqa666ash foq al Faqa666ash.
