Djibouti(SomalilandPress)–Djibouti education minister Dr Adawa Hassan Ali has been abruptly sacked from the government after less than 5 months on the job over a secret meeting with a preeminent opposition leader in Ottawa. Dr Adawa was on an official meeting in Montreal when he decided to go on a trip to the Canadian capital. Sources close to Dr Adawa confirmed to SomalilandPress Ottawa Bureau that Djibouti education minister, during his Montreal sojourn, had a long phone conversation with Hussein Abdourahman Andholeh leader of the Djibouti Democratic Coalition and son of the legendary union leader and political figure Abdourahman Andholeh. Dr Adawa then decided to go to Ottawa to meet Hussein Abdourahman Andholeh. Following the meeting, Dr Adawa went on to meet with the sizeable Djiboutian community in Ottawa and while greeting his fellow citizens he inadvertently spilled the beans of his contact with Mr Hussein Abdourahman.
The chatter was the picked up by the very active Djibouti intelligence services in Djibouti. Upon his return in Djibouti, Dr Adawa was promptly excluded from the cabinet and fearful for his safety subsequently fled to Ethiopia where he currently resides.
This whole episode illustrates the dictatorial nature of the Guelleh regime and the absence of the democratic liberties that we take for granted in Somaliland. While Somaliland in the country or abroad fervently advocate for the candidate of their choosing, Djiboutian abroad are constantly spied on

There is two sides to each story. Furthermore, I will take Djibouti's state of affairs over North Somalia's any day.
Let the negative posts and "thumbs down" roll! Go ahead come to papi.
the two sides of the story will both have the same facts so stop paying attention to the emotive words of either. the reality is the education minister had met an opposition party leader on a visit to the djbouti community in america…as djbouti's ruling party works its way to eradicate opposition this minister lost his job….wether he really did or didnt fear for his life and fled to djbouti is irrelevant. The important piece of information is the fact that he lost his job because thats how vunerable and against opposition the currernt ruling party in djbouti is. Djbouti needs a new light.. the guelleh family has been there too long.
Jabouti Hanotaltoo or who you are, tell that to somebody who cares!
As if what you say or do matters to us. The feeling is mutual.
we still don't know what somaliland looking for, is to be like ertheria on colf of horn of africa.
what hargeisa looking today is how to get independance from somalia but not from djibouti.
Demoncratic djibouti was before somaliland,
May is new for somaliland and world new that.
Abl – we are not looking Independence from Somalia. They may try to hinder us seeking recognition from the International Community which they are vigorously trying, but they don't have power or jurisdiction over us to stop us from ahieving our goal and self-determination for that matter.
Thanks for posting this. The Djiboutian medias (all state owned by the way) have announced this without stating the reasons for the minister's sacking. Thanks again…
This regime is just unbelievable! Dr Adawa was sacked for meeting with the opposition only 5 months after he was nominated, this shows us that the whole "remaniment ministeriel" was a joke to calm public outrage after the February demonstrations and that the regime is as rotten as it was. For God sake IOG is worrying me day after day, he turned into this bloody dictator. May Allah save our country from this tyranny that is slowly destroying us and our institutions.
Dr Adawa never met Hussein Abdourahman Andholeh and did not fly to Ethiopia like you wrote.
Dr Adawa irrate the president when he proposed the cancellation of the current education reforms which is a total mess up.
He was nominated as advisor of Prime Ministre Dileyta.
Once again another blatant lie to the lowest it could be, S'land press is playing with the mind of a few narrow minded S'lilanders emotions by posting lies when it comes to Djibouti.
DR adawa was sacked for a different reason and he's currently in Djibouti and never left for Ethiopa.
You mentioned that he met a "prominent" opposition leader in Ottawa. Hussein Abdourahman Andholeh Who's a self-proclaimed opposition, has 1 member ( only himself) of his non existent polical partie, his offices are all the coffee shop in Ottawa. This is what you called a prominent opposition leader. It's a joke
If I hired to do a job and you did not do as I have everything I demand the right to fire you. This is what happened in this case.
