BREAKING NEWS: Somaliland army takes control of Buhoodle

LAS ANOD — Somaliland army is reported to have seized control of the disputed eastern town of Buhoodle in Buhoodle region, near the Ethiopian border, without any confrontations. Reports said thousands of heavily armed soldiers moved into the town and neighboring villages early Sunday morning (local time) after they heard heavy gun fire from the town. They added a local tribal militia was testing their guns but were caught off-guard by surprise. No casualties were reported but Somalilandpress has learned the army clashed with SSC tribal militia in the village of Sool-Jogto, about 25 KM east of Buhoodle city. After over-running them, they entered the city from two separate directions chasing the militia.
The army move comes days after separatists gathering in near by town of Taleeh declared the formation of a semi-autonomous state. The President Ahmed Silanyo said his government will not tolerate the disintegration of Somaliland.
Many families have already fled from Buhoodle and there are reports the army is pouring reinforcements from Sool-Jogto, Meygagle and Horu-Fadh into Buhoodle. Somaliland officials said anti-Somaliland elements such as the former Somali Prime Minister, Ali Khalif Galayr, entered the country from Buhoodle. They added they were sealing the area from tribal militants and other groups who wanted to destabilize the region.
Mohamed Adan Geele (Urri), former rebel leader and commander, recently told local press that he prepared more than 300 former tribal militants based in Buhoodle for the Somaliland National Army. It is unclear if they took part in the operation.
The President addressed a joint session of Parliament yesterday (Saturday) in which he made it clear that his government was ready to defend the country and flush out separatists. The main aim of the meeting was to discuss ways to handle the outcome of the tribal conference in Taleeh in Sool region organized by a group calling itself G6. The group argues it wants a semi-autonomous region within Somalia. Traditionally, the area was disputed between Somaliland and Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland. Puntland is also against the conference and has reportedly arrested few officials who were heading to Taleeh from Bosasso.
It is not clear if the army will move into Taleeh to disperse the participants and organisers.

Listen Somaliland people you would not have captured SSC land if they were all united and working together. What made it easy for them was SSC is half and half. The latest reports suggest the army is heading to Taleeh and the people that were meeting there have already began to flee. The conference has came to an end without a state or name or president, they can make that in some shiisha cafe or marfish shop in Ohio, MPLS or Nairobi. Not in Somaliland.

As an Ethiopian, i cant believe how divided the old Somalia is. I have no idea of these armies you guys call "isaaq" "ssc" "hawiye" "mj" and others. They seem like clan names. I just cannot believe how a nation of one language, one ethnic group and only one religion can be so disintegrated. Rather sad. But it makes me question the sanity of the guys calling on somaliweyn. When their own house is full of infighting amongst tribes and clans, they worry about territory under Kenyan and Ethiopian control.
As for Somaliland, ive been reading sources on her recent military movements, it seems to have been a fast clean up operation with excellent manouevers that quickly sent enemies running out of the district with no casualties.
Very impressive, from an army that is under embargo and cant even purchase international weapons (as still unrecognized, it is under Somalia arms embargo). These fast paced operations show ability and focus. Had it been just another tribal group, you would have seen hundreds of casualties, kidnapped civilians and dozens bein summarily executed. But now that the world can see that Somaliland has a strong functioning force in place, it should see that an independant Somaliland would give birth to another African state against al shabab and extremists.
I suggest Somaliland and Ethiopia hold joint military excercices, and Somaliland soldiers should get scholarships to attend Ethiopia's Military Defense academies at Harar or Holeta Genet, since many of its enemies are trained at Sawa in Eritrea.

I am an impartial observer. If you asked me who is at fault, I'd say the Hargiesa-run govt. is at fault. Why? You can't subjugate other clans to tow a line and follow your one-clan talking points.. Somalis are proud people. The most ardent supporters of Somaliland are the Isaks. You see all the blogs. I'll say 99% are Isaks. You don't hear Isse, Gadabursi defending this illegitimate government, and we are DIR, supposedly closer to the Isaks than the Daroods. But, the Isaks have disclaimed the DIR people. So, as Isse, Gadabursi, Biyomal, Akisho, etc. we could care less about their fate. They make up less than 38% of northern Somalia but 85% or more of "government" officials.
Southern Nation: Here is my solution: I am all for Isakland, so long as Awdal, Salal and other regions can administer their day -to-day affairs and but be part of Federal Somalia. What is wrong with Hargiesa-run govt. just managing the affairs of Isak people? I am all for it 100%. I hope my ex-DIR clansmen heed my advice.

Just because you live in a county less than 200,000, you think everywhere else is close in estimation to your population. Isaaq forms more than 85% of Somaliland population, if not more whether anybody want to challenge it or not. So, don't give me that crab of 38%. They didn't come silently and they killed four innocent civilians while injuring many others and burned a lot of houses. Less than hundred civilians have killed numerous of them and captured cars and chased them out of the city.

Before things continue to get out of hand on this site here are a few points I would like the Dhulbhante's on this site to think about
1. Who amongst you or other tribes of Somaliland has put the "political" differences in the context of – Isaaq vs Darood, or Isaaq vs Dhulbhante?
2. Is it not possible for Somaliland to host a range of political views no matter how extreme like the developed nations of the world?
– In the US, the Republicans and Democrats are like the sun and the moon in terms of vision of how the country should be run. They can't even agree on whether or not their economy should be better regulated or not!
3. Have the Dhulbhante exhausted all avenues to express their political views within Somaliland? The answer is NO! Till this day, the Dhulbhante has chosen to remain isolationists in many respects despite being given the opportunity to establish their own political parties and invitation by all the tribal elders of Somaliland including the Gadabursi.
4. What other grievances do the Dhulbhante have other than their view on Somali unity?
– Do we disagree on education? NO!
– Do we disagree on the importance of maintaining peace? NO!
– Do we disagree on improving and developing Somaliland for all our peoples? NO!
5. Would it not then be more conducive to peace for the Dhulbhante to join the political process, discuss their political views, while working with their brethren to maintain the above 3 points?
YES YES YES!
Unfortunately, however, some Dhulbhante have chosen to fall for the trap of some of their diaspora brothers who are failures in their host country. A lot of these so called nationalists are cab drivers, jobless coffee shop politicians or welfare junkies who have wasted their opportunities for self betterment doing nothing. I would even go so far as to say that a young boy studying at Nuguul university in Las Anod would carry more weight than these individuals, who view their own tribesmen as a meal ticket to hustle international aid organizations.
Secession or not, my only true hope is for our Dhulbhante brothers to wake up before these diaspora losers leave us all in a hole like Xamar while they fly back to the comforts of their government sponsored homes.

The war in Sool is good news. Involving itself in clan warfare while at the same time conducing mass arrests of journalists undermines the image of the peaceful, multi-clan democracy Somaliland was presenting to the world. It is high time Somalis rally around Somali unity. As a matter of fact this article fails to even mention any evidence backing up its sensational headline.
