MELBOURNE — Pplice suspect the relatives of people smugglers are using a Melbourne grocery store to transfer funds offshore to pay for places on asylum boats.
Authorities suspect the store in Victoria’s Dandenong is one of six shops in the same street being used to send money to people smugglers overseas, The Weekend Australian reports.
Federal police and members of the local community believe the store is owned by relatives of convicted people smuggler Haji Sakhi, who was deported from custody in Indonesia to Pakistan earlier this year, according to the report.
One of the store’s owners, Ali Ashgar, reportedly denies both the relationship with Mr Sakhi and any involvement in people smuggling.
The other owner, Juma Khan Karimi, could not be reached for comment, the newspaper says.
Sakhi is believed to be involved in people smuggling activities dating back to 1999.

and Somalis blame others for being racist. these animals shouldnt be allowed to the first world as they will go back to their stone age traditions and customs.
Watch out your funny language and attitude. In every Nation bad things happen and Somalis
are no exception. My remarks have nothing to do with the Australia's suspected Hawalas
by which I know nothing about…just embarrassed by your funny attitude…That's all.
Cheers.
Somalis are Muslims. All of education and civilization originated from Islam! Before Muslims brought civilization to Europe, ur ancestors were worse than the animals! White people just copied the education which originated from Muslims and spread it to some other countries. Every smart persons knows that!
So u should always respect Muslims
This has nothing to do with Somalis and people smuggling is not something Somalis are into or know anything of. This is mainly done by Indonesians since they are the closest neighbour with huge population.
Well done to the Victorian police, we should not allow criminals to hold Australia hostage.
