Hargeisa, 1 Feb. (Somalilandpress) – Somaliland President Dahir Rayale has received a French delegation consisting of French Ambassadors, Ministers and business executives in his office last night.
The delegation, whose members belong to the French Embassies of Djibouti and Kenya as well as France’s largest private corporates are headed by Thierry Choinier, France Ambassador to Djibouti.
The visit is part of the continuing process to strengthen relationships between the two countries.
The delegation will also participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of France’s third largest bank’s first branch in Hargeisa. The Banque pour le Commerce et l’Industrie – Mer Rouge (BCI-MR) which is the largest bank in Djibouti will open it’s first branch in Somaliland and connect this unrecognized republic to the financial capitals of the world as well as offering a wide range of financial services including savings and checking accounts, mortgages, personal loans, debit cards and credit cards to Somalilanders.
The two sides will discuss capacity building, investment and trade, education, security and stability in the region.
Tomorrow morning the delegation will be taken to the Somaliland port city of Berbera, where prominent French business executives will look into ways they can invest and develop the port.
The University of Hargeisa is also to offer French classes in it’s curriculum as part of the agreement.
Somaliland is unrecognized and there is no sign that the France will be the first European country to recognize it either however the French are willing to work with Somaliland and improve living standards there by investing in Somaliland directly.
