Hargeisa – 31 Jan (Somalilandpress) – A high-level of delegation from France have arrived in Egal International Airport in Somaliland’s capital – Hargeisa. The delegation was received by high-officials from the Somaliland government and were taken to Mansor Hotel.
This is the third delegation from France to visit Somaliland within the past six months. Since President Rayale visited Paris last year, France and Somaliland have developed close ties.
There is no official comment from the government but sources close to the government have informed Somalilandpress that the delegation is here to follow up agreements Somaliland and France reached last year.
France’s third largest bank is expected to open a bank branch in Somaliland’s capital within the next few months and will be providing a wide range of financial services including savings and checking accounts, mortgages, personal loans, debit cards and credit cards.
Somaliland’s neighbor Djibouti hosts France’s largest foreign military base and in recent times the three countries have been developing strong ties.
Somaliland restored it’s sovereignty in 1991 after Somalia’s central government collapsed and since then has not received international recognition but maintains peace and some form of financial stability.
